Can anyone who has a Westin Safari bar pls tell me how far out from the bumper does the inside of the bar end up? Meaning if you measure from the bumper to the back of the the top tube , how far is it? I just had one installed by a local shop and it looks like it sticks out way too far. The guy said all the ones he does for Xterra's and Frontiers look about the same. The distance between the the bumper and my bar is almost 6".........I've never had a brush gaurd before other then my Smittybuilt bumber on my Jeep so I'm not sure on this one.....pls help.

Boarder - check your e-mail

thanks all........

Mike- Just got off the phone with Westin and then the shop that did the work. The owner (to my surprise) was very helpful and said he would order another bar today and swap them out tFriday lunch time. He was very sympathetic to my claims ....... FINALLY something works out for me !!!

Thanks again.

This was noted some time ago, they often include the wrong mounting brackets I believe.

Do you have to remove the tow hook for the westin bar or does it stay?

You can leave the tow hook, but it's more-or-less useless because the Safari Bar blocks most of it. I'll take a peek underneath and confirm, but...

The back of my Safari Bar is less than 2 inches from the front of the bumper ...

I have seen installations where the bar is sticking out as much as 6 inches and attribute that to someone who couldn't follow directions and possibly an incorrect installation kit ...

My front tow hook is still useable, but not quite as accessible as before ... I've not put a left hand hook on so don't know how the bar might affect that ...

I dont see the problem with the space from the tow hook to the bar, you can still use it right? So whats wrong....here is a shot... http://photos.hxoc.net/view_photo.php?set_albumName=HzlCrk_Sept7-8_01&id=aax

I just went and measured mine ...

The back of the Safari Bar is 2 and 1/2 inches from the front of the steel bumper ...

I can't imagine that the measurement could be 6 inches ...

Just got the safari bar put on tonight but it was dark by the time I got it done so no photos yet. I would have to say it was a very easy install. Everything fit together nicely and it looks great. I have a question. My lights are still in transit and won't be here until thursday. I have a question about mounting the switch. There is a spot next to the rear wiper switch that seems like the best spot to mount the switch for the kc's. Where have all of you mounted your switches?

Thanks in advance.

Xman6:

I mounted Hella 550's ...

I installed the rocker switch in the hole immediately to the left of the rear wiper switch ...

Looks like a factory installation ...

EMT...Where'd you get yours in Charlotte? I'm up the road about 45 minutes and would like to check into having one put on. Also, did they fix your overextension on the thing?

RedX- I got it in Charlotte on South Blvd near Uptown area at a place called " A & BG Trailer". They get about $135 or so for the bar and mounting kit. I talked to the owner and he was very understanding about the whole thing and had another bar (the correct one) the next day for me and told me if I still wasn't happy he would do what I wanted to correct the problem. It looks much better now. I'll try to get the digital camera from my boss and take a pic at lunch time and e-mail it to you.

EMT,

Thanx for the info. I'll actually be in Charlotte on a photo shoot within the next week or so. Don't know the day exactly. Do they have these things in stock? I'd love to get it on before the outerbanks trip.I do appreciate your help with this.

I used to live in Charlotte, but got tired of the 1.25 hour commute to work. Now I can get to my old workplace, over by the coliseum in 45 mins.

Anyhoo, thanks for the info.
