I am putting two tow hooks on my Xterra (my X did not have the original tow hook on it - the dealer seems to think it wasn't supposed to come with one). What size are the OEM tow hook bolts?

If you didn't get the 'sport' pkg., it didn't come with a tow hook. The bolts are 9/16" if I remember right. There are no nuts welded to the drivers side frame, so you have to come up with a fix for that.

wouldn't they be metric.. somewhere close to 12mm ?

I got all 3 packages - that's the worst part.
And the dealer kept saying "But, you didn't pay for a tow hitch"...
Argh...TOW HOOK, dammit.
Anyway, thanks for your guys' help.

Why isn't there a tow hook on the drivers side as well? and has anyone found a good way to put one on both sides?

Simple: No hook = a few bucks saved in parts = a few hundred grand saved over a year.

As for mounting one, there are no weld nuts inside the frame so you have to find a way to hold the nuts in place. I think it was Warmonger that enlisted a small-fingered friend to reach in and hold 'em while he took an air wrench to the bolt.

the bolts you need are M12X50 fine thread (12 mm dia and 50 mm long). i just put my hook on a few weeks ago so i am sure about this one.
