XD9000 seems to be the winch of choice. the HS9500 supposedly do not fit by like 1" or less. the 8000 will fit as well, but get as much winch as you can afford. and as mobycat said, do not get the I series. If you order one make sure you tell whomever takes your order at least 3 times that you cannot use the I series and to not ship it, i know a few people that have already gotten the I series ones by mistake.

don't know of anyone that has installed a ramsey or superwinch in the Xterra ARB. i have been told that there is a Superwinch that would probably fit, but who wants to order and attempt to install something that will "probably" fit? so i got the Warn XD9000.

I have a different thought...

Go hydraulic, Milemaker winch will out pull the electric every time with out question. The hydraulic winch will not over heat and will work under water, this is a concern to me living in Florida. You will not need extra batteries nor upgraded alternator to add to the cost of the winch. Many articles have been written comparing the electric verse hydraulic and the hydraulic has never fail to pull it one against the electric. The down side you lose the engine that is it…

Milemarker has said it’s 9K unit will fit in an ARB bumper. A parts dealer near Milemarker in is going to work with them and place a unit in an ARB bumper to know for sure if it will fit with no modifications. I am going to see if they would use my truck as the guinea pig…

Just my 2˘ worth…

But if you go electric go Warn… the others are nice but you get what you pay for, you will quickly forget the few $$$ you save while stuck on the trail…

my only reservations about a hydraulic winch is if the engine is stalled it is worthless, no? the engine has to be running. so if you are under water as you said, the Xterra engine would most likely conk out, leaving you in the lurch. but i could be mistaken about that.

other than that, i agree with you. i didn't feel like splcing into anything to drive the hydraulics though. so for the moment i am going electric.

I have a Warn HS9500 in my bullbar and it has plenty of room to spare. I actually installed it after I had the bull bar installed. I went for the HS9500 because of the higher rating and lower current draw compared to the 9000.

JonSL,

I am very interested in the outcome of the MileMarker test fit on an ARB. I had spoken to MM before and got the verbal thumbs up but, wanted someone to actually VERIFY it would fit.

I know the bolt pattern for mounting is the same and MM says that the roller fairlead is the same as the Warn. The MM is also rotatable in the mount so that may help ensure a good fit.

I'll check back her for a report but, email me about what you find out if you don't mind (fee_nx@hotmail.com).

very cool!!!! i had always gotten conflicting reports from different people on whether it fit or not. for example one guy at OK4wd said yes, and another guy there said no. 4x4connection said no, but on another board they said yes. so I was confused. glad to hear it!!! wish i would have known that for sure earlier. oh well. i'll keep that info in my hat ad be happy with my 9000.

just remember that some places will wheel and deal with you. i got my Warn XD 9000 for $650. so make sure you do your shopping as you might be able to find a place that will get you the 9000 for the price you'd pay elsewhere for the 8000.

Mobycat,
You can put the "i" series in the ARB I know because my XD9000i is sitting in my bullbar right now and an X8000i on the rear bumper

ibex, did you have to cut/modify anything to fit the xd9000i into your bull bar and is it the Xterra bull bar

how do you attach the control cable? I can imagine that would be a pain in the ass.

I personnaly use the Warn 8000 on a multimount which gives me the option of plugging it into the front or rear receiver.

Is it best to get the winch when you get the bull bar or can you install the winch later without having to remove that beast? Just trying to figure in $ and what I've got in the piggy bank.

It would be easier to install the winch before you install the bullbar.

Some of us have installed the winch later. I didn't find it to be difficult.

I just installed a Warn HS 9500 after the ARB was already mounted. Definately a two-person job (one to hold the winch up, one to get the bolts threaded). All in all, not that difficult.

I just installed a XD9000 (but we took the bar off for the install.

Did you keep your on?
That must have been a pain to mount it attached.
