While shopping around for our XTerra we visited our first (Merchants Nissan in Concord, NH)

My wife was "just looking" and hopped out of our car while I kept an eye on our newborn.... but the sales-scum ( I know, not ALL sales folks are slightly higher than pond scum on the evolutionary chain, but this one could really use some evolution!-) made a bee-line to her from across the parking-lot, and really started to put the screws to her... I loaded up the newborn and got out of our vehicle and intervened.

He starts blathering about how "hot" these are and how they cannot keep them on the lot, and we are lucky to have come there because they had 6 of them, etc.

We asked for a test drive and he refused stating that we need to make sure we qualify for financing before we can go for a ride.
I showed him my letter from NMAC stating I was already pre-approved, he didn't care.

I asked him about the sticker prices and why his prices were $2000 MORE that what Nissan said the base MSRP was.
He said it was becasue of price differences between option packages.
I knew we were "being worked" and decided to throw my best volley back at him... let him know he's not dealing w/ some podunk that just crawled out from under the tractor. I showed him the print-out from Nissan's "build your own" web-page and said "I want _this_ vehicle with these option for this price." I replies, he laughs loudly in my face and exclaims "Not for THAT price you are not, at least not here, that's for sure!" "Okay, fine we'll buy our XTerra from Port City Nissan over in Portsmouth, then." and we start walking to our car.He starts "playing the game" and say's "let me take that print-out to my Sales Manager and see what he can do for you." At this point I told him "No thank you, your flippant cavalier attitude is unacceptable and I'd rather buy a Geo Metro than every buy an Nissan from Merchants, but go ahead and get your Sales Manager out here so I can tell him exactly WHY I will NEVER do business here!" he declined my invitation to speak directly w/ his manager.

The next afternoon my wife was happily driving her new XTerra from Port City Nissan.

I agree. I actually bought my car from them (about three months ago) - I finally got the price I wanted after much hassle - believe it or not - I got the best price; even better than the Portsmouth dealership - but it was a pain in the ass - and my 6'8' boyfriend probably helped a little...seriously, who knows..but they pulled the crap about well, blah, blah, blah this and blah, blah, blah that - and let me speak to my sales manager, etc.

The hassle you got regarding test driving the Xterra was interesting. I never got that. The sales person took us out right away - even took us slightly off road to see how it handled, etc.

I'm still getting letters from the sales guy telling me if someone comes in with his business card and my name on the back (referral thing) he'll send me $75.

I had to take the Xterra in for a service/warranty issue (call) and they tried to tell me that they don't give loaners for such calls - yeah right.....than the sales guy who sold me the car "pulled some strings" so I could get a loaner - oh thank, thank was suppose to be my response - instead it was DAMN straight.....

Anyway, it has left a bad taste in my mouth that I bought my car there - but it was my first purchase, and let's just say I've learned the hard way.

I just completed a purchase of a 2000 Frontier Crew Cab from them last week. Pricewise it was a no brainer. I used their web page and got an internet price (3% over invoice + ad fee or something like that)over the phone that I though was great. They priced a fully loaded SE for $400 less than anybody else and agreed to give me $100 more than anyone else for my trade-in (over the phone without ever seeing it). Finally, they offered to deliver it to my house and pick up my trade-in. My wife actually got mad at me over the deal asking why I had dragged here around to six other dealership and submitted her to the negoation process when we should have just started with Merchant's in the first place.
Then the problems started. I got a call saying that the Truck didn't have a sunroof, and it didn't have the upgraded stereo. They noted that the price was the same, as it was based on invoice (which was correstly represented to me). In thier defense, the price was still the best, but now only by $150. When I said no-dice, they offered to toss the Nissan Hitch on for free. I agreed, the truck was delivered as promised, papers were signed and I though that that was the end of it. Two days later I got a call from the salesman stating that a dent in my trade-in (which was accurately described to them over the phone) was going to take $200.00 more to fix than they thought and that I should be a "stand-up guy" and send them a check. Well, I stood right up and said no. Then, the next day I get three calls from them including one from the sales manager who wanted to know why I hadn't paid for the hitch for which I owed $400.00. He stated that the dealership had lost money on the truck and that he would never have approved the sale had he known. I told him the above related story to which he replied that my story made more sense than the salesmans (apparently a whopper) and that he had caught his salesman doing this with other customers.
The frustrating part is that the truck was delivered with a paint chip and an IOU for a repair. After the calls demanding money I hesitate to take the truck anywhere near the dealership in fear that they will hold it hostage.
Pricewise, they were the best, but so far the aftersale period (during which I am supposed to be please with my new toy) has sucked.

Did any of you try Miller Nissan in Lebanon, NH? My wife and I both bought cars there (on the same day!). I was just going to look at Xterras, but the sales dude (Josh Crawford, highly recommended...) gave me a great price and nearly twice what I thought my trade in was worth (I did a fair amount of research before talking to any dealers). My first aid kit was missing and Josh bought me a new one out of his own pocket.

This was by far the least pressured, most straight forward car sale I've ever participated in.

my experience has shown it's best not to deal with the sales guys on the floor but rather the sales mgr or the fleet mgr. you usually get jerked around quite a bit less.

i walked away from steven's creek nissan and went to capitol nissan in san jose cuz a guys bulls**ted me and told me he had the vehicle I decribe on his lot. i spent a whole 5 minutes there after i found out he jerked me. what pissed me off was i had to drive quite a ways to get there.

I live in CT and bought my X from Keene Nissan, Keene, NH. $300 over invoice. Dealt over the phone and through e-mail. Originally it was $200 over invoice for a Silver XE with power, utility, and hitch. I later decided to get a Black instead. They had one but did not have a hitch. They charged me $100 to install it. Now I know I could have installed it myself and saved the $100, but at the time, I wasn't sure how long it would take.

Anyway, I finalized everything over thephone, even financing, drove up on a friday morning and 1 1/2 hours later left with my new X.

Hi, I've been searching for a new
2001 SE 4x4 auto around several dealerships
in my area.
I've gotten prices from $25000 up to $27000.

Can anyone give me a good idea as to what's
a good price for this Xterra?
thanks!
