On our way to gone Moab last weekend, one of our members, PHXX stripped out his torsion bar and t-bar anchor about an hour south of Flagstaff. With no replacement anchor with us, he and DBAX braced his LCA, and we limped into Flagstaff looking for a fix.
Much to our dissappointment, both the local salvage yards were closed, and the local dealer (Planet Nissan) did not have the parts we needed.
DBAX got ahold of the So Cal guys, and they had the parts we needed, but they were still 300 miles away. We were limping along, debating whether to hold out in Flag and wait the 6 hours for Andy to get in town then make the repairs, or limp up to where they had planned to camp that night, when DBAX turned into the Planet Nissan dealership.
Dan went in and introduced himself, explained our situation and where we were headed, and convinced them to search their inventory for a vehicle we could take the parts we needed from with the promise that replacement parts were enroute from California.
Planet Nissan could have turned us away, told us to bugger off, but instead, they found a recently repossessed Frontier on the back lot, and since all their techs were busy, allowed us to cannibalize the parts we needed to fix PHXX's Xterra. When it was all said and done, they only charged for the cost of the parts we took. They were going to charge for the labor to fix the frontier, which is very fair, but they did not know how to assign the work order.
To make a long story short, Planet Nissan bent over backwards to help us get back on the road to Moab. I do not know of any other dealers that would have aloowed a ragtag group of modified xterras to not only tear apart one of their vehicles, but also to fix the truck ourselves on their property.
Huzzah to Planet Nissan, thank you for the assist.
