Has anyone ever been to Land Between the Lakes (KY-TN area)? A friend mentioned it as a place we could go to offroad (he's got a Wrangler). I was surprised I'd never heard anyone talk about it on here - and YES, I did a search for it as well! Just wondered if anyone had experiences to share?

"Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area is the first federally-designated area for OHV riding and camping. The 2500 acre tract is centrally located in Land Between the Lakes and offers a variety of topography for varying skill levels. Campsites, chemical toilets, drinking water, unloading ramps, and trails are available for you to enjoy."

I backpacked the North-South trail there a few years back so I dug out my file folder on it for you. Turkey Bay Off-Road Area is on the west shore (Kentucky Lake side) in the Kentucky portion of the park. It is listed as having camping, loading ramps, and a maze of challenging trails.

The park also provides areas for horsemen, mtn. biking, road biking, fishing, and target ranges for guns and archers, though boating is the predominent activity.

Thanks for the links, wqbang. And for the info, CMor. It does look like a neat place - we're taking a jet ski and some tents down there with us too, so it should be a good time. We aren't going until this summer, but I'll report back with more details after the trip.
