#98153 - 01/11/03 03:19 PM Shifting from 4wd to 2H problems...

Today I went 4 wheeling and I could not get my truck to shift back into 2H after coming out of 4H. It took me a good 5 min to get the damn lever up to 2H. What is the deal? Am I doing something wrong. I've had problems before too but not this much. Do I have to reverse a few feet in 4H then stop and shift to 2H? I know after you are in 2H you need to reverse to unlock the hubs but I can't even move the damn lever up to 2H. It is anything but easy.

I did search too and wasn't happy with any posts I read through.

Just wondering, did you have it on 4LO also, and tried to switch it to 2HI from 4HI with your transmission on Nuetral...

Well, I went into 4H... then drove around alternating between 4H and 4L. Ending up in 4H before making it back to pavement.

Then I couldn't get it back to 2H. What happened is the trail was mild and got worse so I switched to 4L... then on the way out just the opposite. What a bitch to get back to 2H though.

I just tried it again in my parking lot and it went into 2H no problem from 4H to 2H and from 4L to 2H. So, I guess it was because I was driving around alternating 4H and 4L that it was a pain to get back?

I think I figured it out.

4H to 2H you need to be in drive and moving a tad.

4L to 2H you need to be in neutral. If you go to 4H first then you need to be in drive before 2H.

Thats what I figured out on my own... dunno if its correct but it works.

Take your foot off the gas and coast. You must shift without any load on the transmission.
