Heres the scoop: Powertrax is not going to be releasing the locker for the X/Frontier/Pathfinder until 2002 the reason being lack of interest. So....

We are seeking your support in an effort to have PowerTrax accelerate their efforts to introduce a No-Slip Locker application for the Xterra. For those not familiar with the details of the No-Slip, the below listed URLs are provided.

Powertrax No-Slip web site
http://www.powertrax.com/noslip.htm

Review of No-Slip for the Isuzu Amigo
http://www.outdoorwire.com/4x4/reviews/no-slip/

The two key elements of the No-Slip are price and ease of installation: most current applications can be acquired for between $400-$450 and can be installed by the owner using the existing differential carrier (with or without LSD).

We plan to submit a petition to PowerTrax citing that at least fifty (50) Xterra/Frontier/Pathfinder owners are serious and committed to obtaining the type of performance enhancement that the No-Slip can provide their vehicles. We have a point-of-contact at PowerTrax who we will be submitting the petition to and ask that with your permission we add your name and email address to the list that will be forwarded.

If you know of other Xterra/Frontier/Pathfinder owners who are interested in getting their names on this petition then please forward this information to them. Please respond to the e-mail address and include your name, year, model of truck and if you have the Nissan LSD. Thanks in advance and with luck we will have the No-Slip available shortly.

Thanks,
EOE

Nope, it's on topic and useful, which is somewhat rare these days.

Email PowerTrax, and tell them you want lockers, front and rear.

Actually please do not e-mail them directly, they asked for the information to be compiled on interested owners and passed along in one petition. Use this address EOEpetition@hotmail.com

The Isuzu guys did the same thing with ARB a few months ago with OK4WD compiling the information for a front locker, they barely met ARB's minimum of 50 but they did it and are now getting front lockers tested and produced. BTW I heard a rumor there is an X with a front locker installed by ARB themselves.

FSR....I thought that you could already get the ARB front locker already for the X/Frontier or does it use a different spline count like in the 233b rear. Besides I thought I saw AC advertising front ARB for the X already anyway.
Regardless I would like a No-slip for my 200a front diff. I already have a locker in my rear.

Ned,

As far as I know, all of us folks that have lockers are of the ARB flavor. There aren't many out there yet (4 or 5?).

Since the locker is engaged by the driver via an in cab switch, it acts as an open diff. on the street. It works great off-road! If you come up on a tricky section of trail, throw the switch and you will walk right up it.

Ohhh hold on, just so I don't get people thinking that I'm trying to mislead anybody in anyway, I own a Hardbody pickup for now and yes it is an ARB unit. SORRY.
My intention is for supporting Nissan owners of all kinds.
So if I can help in getting another locker available for the X I will sign whatever petition neccesary,
Besides I wouldn't mine getting one built for the front diff as well.
Just trying to make the Nissan world a little better.

At the risk of sounding stupid.....

How would this affect the warranty?

Since I didn't get the Sport pkg on my XE, I don't have an LSD in the back. I assuming this would compensate for this.

How difficult would this be to install?

The powertrax no-slip will work in either the standard or the LSD. It is a simple install. Anyone with knowledge of automobiles will be able to complete the install in 4 or 5 hours. (Correct me if I am wrong FSRBiker, I believe that is what I remember reading).

Not to mention when this thing becomes available I am sure there will be a hugh install and test party by MAXC, since quite a few of us are going to get one as soon as it is out.

It will be my next Mod, unless it is delayed then I am going for skids.

Charrua,

It would destroy a portion of your drivetrain warranty. Axles and bearings in the rear would no longer be covered. You may also have a tough sale on the driveshaft. For those of us who have already done it, I can guarantee you we will all say unequivocably that it was damn well worth it.

Your lack of an LSD will be in your favor. The PowerTrax slips into the factory housing on an open diff. Special provisions have to be made for LSDs. Getting the clutch pack mounts out of an LSD can be quite a trick. As for any backyard mechanic doing it, I will add a little to that. You better be a backyard mechanic with an above average mechanical aptitude. If you can't even change your own oil or repack your front bearings without cringing in fear and sucking your thumb for an hour, don't even attempt it. Otherwise you will get along fine. (That wasn't meant to be a slam, just want to make sure everyone understands the magnitude of the job.)

A locker offers a HUGE advantage over a LSD. For a GOOD description of what diffs do and how they work, go to my website and visit the air locker section of my mods page. I give a full write-up on how each works and what they do and the advantages of one over the other.

Gordon,
Thanks for the detailed responce. I'll probably wait a year before doing this mod. (I'll be out of warranty by then).
As for mechanical abilities, I've never shied(?) away for tackling anything. And if I do get in trouble , I can always call my brother-in-law, he's a mechanic. (or is Automotive Technician ?? :-) )
