A brush guard is not going to protect anything. Plants and brush still get through a brush guard to mark the plastic and paint. Sticks and twigs that would normally just slide off the front end can get caught in a brush guard and poke holes in radiators or get leverage to bend sheet metal. They also decrease approach angle making the vehicle less capable than it is without one.

They are about the most useless addition to any vehicle.
