My X has started to roll backwards on inclines and hills at red lights when I let off brake. I have an automatic transmission is this normal. Ihave a 2002 se-sc 4x4 with 48000 miles.

Mine does this kinda hit-and-miss, but generally there's a sweet spot of just the right narrow range of slope where it will stay put. Otherwise it will roll back slowly or creep forward depending on the slope.

I have a 2X4 auto. When on a hill I found it want instantly roll back when I'am off the break but, it will roll back eventually. I don't know if everybody will agree, If it looks like a short light and it's not to steep I will feather the throttle until it changes and move on.

Seems perfectly normal to me; both my auto's do this, but it does take a pretty good hill to make them roll backwards. Otherwise, sometimes I can let off the brake, and if it's a mild hill, they'll hold ground. :p
