http://hondasuv.com/forum_crv/viewtopic.php?t=6160 my friend emailed me about this website, apparently it's a Honda CRV forum. to sum it up, his CRV not only out-performed an Xterra AND a Frontier, but held it's own with a lifted Bronco. i think it's bullshit about the Bronco. i'd have to see it to believe that. but about the xterra/frontier, they were 2wd.

I couldn't see the vid, but shame? Hardly. Who cares, especially when they were 4x2's...it's all about the driver anyway.

Did you watch the 9 minute video ? http://www.criana.com/crv/blaine/mudcompilation.wmv Nothing like stupid fucking inbreds driving through a little puddle all day thinking they're having fun. Any 4WD or AWD SUV or Subaru will eat a 2WD Xterra or Frontier for lunch on any terrain, so there's no issue there. The Bronco never appeared to be in low range, so it wouldn't be much better off than the CRV on the hill climb. Sadly the idiot on the roof of the Xterra didn't fall off and get run over, that would have made the video enjoyable.

Well, they are quite proud of their achievement! Actually, a FWD car or SUV could do better than a 2WD Xterra or Frontier in mud too! I couldn't get the video link to work?

I went up to lake tahoe in a CR-V once... it was snowing pretty good out. i have to say... i would have much rather been in a subaru. the CRV has very small road tires on it, which make it very hard to push through any snow, change lanes or get into a driveway if there is any kind of snow bank left over from a plow. the crv is a great CAR but thats what it is, a car.
to its credit in that article, i dont think it has a low range, so the hill climb is moderatly impressive to me.
i think honda is a great company, but in my opinion, they arnt selling anything in the US that is ment to be taken off road.

Actually, narrow tires are better in most snow conditions short of the deeper stuff, they pack the snow down and bite into it with their high contact pressure, while wider ones often push it ahead and scramble for traction. The wider the tire, the heavier the vehicle needs to be to make 'em work. You should see the tires they use on rally cars on snow, they're not much bigger than the donut spares on many vehicles today, though they're studded Brent

The Frontier is the only one that looked like it had any trouble?
The X went up the hill fine, it looked like to me. Hell, I've been up steeper hills than that just as unceremoniously with Grabbers.
So where's the "shame" part? I don't see anyone getting stuck.
(Technically, wouldn't this belong in the 2WD forum?)

Brenti might not have been clear on what i said... what i ment was, the diameter of the CR-V's tires are very small. so if you have to go over a curb or something like a snow bank, you are almost hitting it strait on with the tire (50% up the tire). where as a larger tire will be able to roll over the same size obstacle with greater ease (hits lower on the tire, easier to roll over). i agree about the Wideness of the tire, but that wasnt what i was refering to.
