Where's my Hill Descent button?

Bought a 2006 4X4 Off-road package. Brochure says the Hill Descent Control (And Hill Start Assist) is standard with off-road package (on 4x4 Off-road), but there is no switch for it. I have VDC and another to engage the rear locker, but that's it? Hmmm...

Hill start assist is only with the manual transmission. I don't know of any hill decent control.

Wanted to add: I do have an automatic, so maybe the brochure is misprinted? It states "Hill Descent Control (HDC) - 4X4 with automatic transmission" and "Hill Start Assist (HSA) - 4x4 with automatic transmission" both with a gray box for the off-road package which indicates a standard option. Either way, gonna call the dealership tomorrow.

The best place to look for this is not the brochure, but the owner's manual.
RTFM !

Unfortunately the manual covers all possible options available on the X. It does NOT say if my specific model has it or not. Exact verbiage is "HILL DESCENT CONTROL (HDC) SWITCH (if so equipped)"
So thanks, but this doesn't help me. What I need to know if other off-road 4X4 Auto owners have it or not.
NissonUSA.Com says I should have it. The dealer inventory sheet says this VIN# should have it.

If you have an auto OR you have it.
The hill descent control is a button that shows a little X going down hill. It is to the right of the VDC OFF button.
It works pretty well.

Yeah, manual OR x's DON'T have it. I'm thinking the poster has a 6 speed.
don't worry, the six speed rocks enough to warrant the deletion of a feature.

Nope, I have an Automatic 4x4 Off-road. (pics tomorrow)
I got 4 buttons to the right of the 4X4 switch, but only TWO do anything (locker and VDC). The other two are blank.

yeah, uh, if yours says it has it then you should have a little button that has a little truck going down a hill. if you don't, then you got the shaft! i would go back and raise hell!
as for the hill start assist, the auto's have it too. if you stop on a hill (point it upwards and on a steep one to test) and when you let your foot off the brake, the brake should stay on for a few seconds and keep the truck from rolling back. it will release as soon as you touch the gas or in a few seconds.

My '05 OR has it. Third switch to the right of the transfer case control. I'm also not sure if the '06's have it, but I don't see why not. As stated above, check with the dealer and if its supposed to be there, raise 40 kinds of hell with them about it ![[Argue]](graemlins/argue.gif) . If you've still got your sticker, check it, too. Should be listed under the package features.

Check the door jamb sticker. What was your build date? Maybe something changed mid-year?

Hill Decent Control (is the button nex to the 4x4 knob)
Hill Start Assist is not a button. When you start your truck on a hill, it keeps the brakes applied for a few seconds while u change to the gas pedal.

I'm guessing the manual trans OR with a locker can't have HDC because a locked up axle being pushed by a 100% connected stickshift trans will not work right. got to have differentiation or a auto trans slippage to be able to vary wheel speeds with braking like that. VDC cant work when the locker is on either, obviously.

It sounds like you are missing a feature. I would contact the dealer. Did you get a chance to get some pics? I'm sure someone with an auto can comment on them. I don't mean to hijack the thread but the X's with manual transmissions DO NOT have the hill start assist (HSA) feature. I rool back on every hill I've been on unless I have the e-brake on. They do have a clutch switch cancel but that is different from the HSA.

You are correct. Your OR X Auto should have that button. Take it in.. kinda cool rare slip.

Note wheels and shiny emblem on door. Yep, I'm definitely missing a button, hopefully that's all. Well my dealership is wanting to order the window sticker so they can determine if my vehicle should actually have it or not. Tomorrow they will call and let me know what's up. This sucks.

This sucks. If you just bought your X then go onto the website where you bought the X and do a look up. you should still see your truck there. I did that right after I bought mine because I had a question about mine and saw that they still had my truck for sale for like 4 days before they updated the site. If it's still there then it will have all of the options that came with your truck.

I'm sure it is just the switch. the rest is software which you probably have (if not a new flash should hook you up).
What the hell are those guys smoking in TN? maybe the next whiz quiz will thin out the dufus's who put that dash together.

Any other '06 OR AT's out their can answer this? This is not correct. The AT OR 4x4 has HSA. The MT OR 4x4 has "clutch start", and the switch is located next to the side-mirror controls on the left side of the lower dash. This is a picture of the cabin on an 06 X 4x4 AT OR. You can see the HDC switch to the right of the "VDC Off" button. ![](http://www.nissanusa.com/m/cma/i/5xt/5xte_gal_big10.jpg) edit: sorry if this info has already been posted. ![[Geek]](graemlins/geek.gif) I get lazy and don't read the rest of the posts before I reply.
