I know there are only a couple of us... but I thought I'd try to get the word out:

There is a petition in the local grocery stores (at least at the Kroger at Bethany and Allen Heights) to allow beer/wine sales in Allen. When Frisco approved the same thing, apparently their sales tax revenue went up 27%.

I wanted to sign - but I'm not registered to vote in Allen yet and they can only take registered city residents.

Frisco rocks.

You know, I never have been able to understand the whole dry vs. wet parts of town up here. Seems ridiculuos to me. You have to know where you are and where you can go to buy alcohol. I've always lived in cities where you can go to any gas station or grocery store and pick up a 6 pack (or more) and it was wonderful. Almost like they are encouraging you to drink and drive long distances if you happen to run out in the middle of the night. Bastards.

I felt like I was in some bizarre different country (one that's free!) when I went to Nevada... you can buy vodka at a gas station at 4 in the morning if you want to (and then go visit a legal hooker!)... none of the stupid restrictions that we have here.

The only problem with the petition is that the city has to have good building codes in place, restricting where alcohol can be sold... we voted for beer/wine in Lowry crossing last year or so, and the week before the vote, discovered our city codes would have allowed anyone to sell it on their front lawn practically... it never passed anyhow, but the city managers had to rewrite the codes really quickly just in case...
