Guess what... In the US, in major cities, we have buses, subway or light rail (depending on the city). And for cross country, we have Amtrak OR Greyhound.

Quit your bitching. Europe's mass transit ISN'T any better than ours. It's just that they don't have to travel as far to get from one end of a country to another.
