Ya know... I admit I'm a relative "newbie" here... or F.N.G.... or whatver appellation a three month member gets/deserves... but I have noticed one thing about XOC.

It is littered/infested with high-handed, smarmy, self-appointed "post police".

Now... while I'm new *here*, I am not *new* to the web, nor am I unfamiliar with hosting and moderating a web bbs. I very well aware of bandwidth usage/cost/and the inefficiency of repeat posts/questions and answers that are readily available via the "search" function. Were I moderating this bbs, I'd just about choke at another XTerra Mileage complaint.

That said, while we all encourage the use of the "search" function, can the self-appointed "post-police" understand that web based scripts (responsible for the "search" function) are not always flawless?

I've seen some downright rude and even abusive replies (from both old-timers and new members alike) responding to a simple question... a question that was NOT provided a satisfactory link based on the reasonable information request input.

"Search" is a tool designed to save web based bandwidth function/waste. This can save a bbs from unnecessary expense.

All in all, I'd encourage the following...

1. Use the "Search" function with as many accurate terms as possible... and then post your question. After all, that's what this place is supposed to be all about... uh... help... asking questions and receiving assistance.

2. "Post-Police" types: if it takes you longer to locate the link that you post, just to "dump on" the person asking the question, just answer the damn question without the editorial commentary, okay? .

I love this place. I can't tell ya how many great ideas I've gotten here... but RELAX... its a website about a truck... and its the MODERATORS that are resonsible for bandwidth use/abuse.

Wow, the first few posters doing the complaining are all rookies. They also post way too frequently. C'mon, 86 posts in 3 months? Sit back, listen and search.

You know, I'm a member of PBB, VWvortex, Dezertrangers, Race-dezert.com and rarely post on any of them but read up on all of them as well as this one almost daily. And the one thing I've noticed is that ALL OF THEM to some variying degree strongly encourage new members to read a little, do their own research, and use the search feature to find information on their own before asserting that their question is new and unique.

PBB and VWvortex are huge boards with a giant membership. The PBB is much larger and much more brutal with noobies who insist on continuing to repeatedly ask questions that have been answered over and over again. It's the nature of the net and it is typical of internet and automotive forums.

This forum is not anywhere near as vicious as others by a long shot. When someone comes in, spends no time and no effort at all whatsoever and instantly asks a question that has been asked and answered it really indicates that they haven't done any research on their own.

It has very little to do with bandwidth and more to do with there being a bit of a process for someone wanting to come in and be a part of a community , with all of it's disfunctions and faults, so that they can gain and share knowledge of a passion that we all share.

No, what it's littered/infested with are slow-witted, obsequious, "too lazy to search noobs". I've literally torn apart my truck and put it back together with info from this site just by searching. If I could not find the answers I needed, I then spoke up for help.

What puts me off is people coming on this site and spewing chit like "search nazi" or "post police". There's a thread below titled "Goderators." WTF is that? It's like a damned full time job keeping up with some of the mind-numbing idiocy one finds here daily as a moderator. It's a shame to think some of you are driving, and or even breeding.
