Got a knock on the door today from a rep for Primerica Financial Services. I've never had a door to door mortgage salesman so I wasn't all the receptive. Took his card, gave him my email address. Told him I'd send my basic info so he could shoot me a quote.

He said they dont do that, they will make an appointment and come see us to explain their simple mortgage schedule versus the regular one everyone uses.

A quick search shows a few complaints on the web, some info regarding business practices but not a whole lot of specific info on the mortgage they offer.

Anyone one with them?

Had some Sears guys knocking on the door at our old place, selling Cabinate Refacing for Kitchen Cabinates. As we were looking to renovate our kitchen at the time we invited them in and they proceeded to put together a quote for something like $12,500. Then started bugging us about financing us. Was almost impossible to get them out of the house - they really weren't taking no for an answer. Brand New Cabinates for our small kitchen only cost $3500, they were smoking some serious crack expecting $12,500 for new doors on the existing cabinates.

I will never buy anything from a door to door salesman based on principle alone, even if I need it - I'll go to someplace else and get it from them. I had a guy last year come by and try to sell me a security system and when I declined he said something to the effect of "so I guess you don't care about your wife and kids." He got a stern "fuck off" and the door slammed in his face.

I had another guy (again trying to sell a security system - what is it with those guys?) stick his foot in my door when I opened it so I couldn't close it. Very intrusive.

Pet peeve of mine, I guess, but I can't stand door to door salesmen.

Edit - or mormon/jehovah's witness missionaries, but at least they're trying to advance something they care about. I know a guy who uses a couple of mormon kids as free labor for home improvement projects - and he has no intention of converting... laugh

never heard of a door to door mortgage salesman. Heard very vaguely of the company but no way I would give my house mortgage to someone going door to door.

Or anything door to door for that matter. I hate them with a passion. If I want something I will seek you out. Don't come knocking on my door.

I always answer the front door (when I'm not expecting anyone) with a gun in my right hand (the door conceals it)...anyone sticks their foot in my doorway gets told they are trespassing and calmly asked to leave. Haven't had to show the gun yet, but hey it's there.

And if you do show them the gun then it's assault, which is illegal even on your own property. If the person can describe the gun to the Police and says you pointed it at them, could end up in trouble!

It's not assault unless you actually point it at someone or threaten someone with it. If you open your door with a gun in hand, you are completely in your right to do so. Hell you could have been cleaning it when the doorbell rang and didn't want to leave it on the table for the kids to get at for all anyone knows.

You set a toe in my house uninvited, I have the Make My Day law, in Colorado at least, on my side. I feared for my life, your honor and members of the jury.

Would you stick your foot in the way so they couldn't close their door, as well? If so....maybe you should feel threatened, as I sure as hell would feel threatened if a stranger did that to me at my own front door.

Those handy "No Soliciting" signs go a long ways to notifying those fucksticks that they aren't welcome.

And back on topic...Hell no, I wouldn't pursue a mortgage from a door-to-door dude.....nope.

cool
