Wow, that sucks... I dont know whether firewalls are supposed to stand up to something like that... but i would hope it would be since the only thing between the engine coming through the passenger cabin is the firewall in an accident. Glad the guy didnt get hit from behind impaling him further....

That's what's going through my head. He said that he wasn't going "too fast" but in a Jeep world I seriously wonder what that means.

I'm glad he's ok, but I would send those photos to Jeep corporate and tell them if you are going to build a off-road vehicle, that stuff could happen.

OK, I'm not kidding about this; but that actually happened to me! I was on a work trip to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. My friend Ricky liked to build dune-beetle-buggies out of old VW beetles (like this one) and race them around the hills of Alabama. He took me out for a speedy little jaunt and he drifted out of control and we glided right into a tree just like that. It pierce the firewall on the passenger side (my side) and I heard a gut wrenching "KA-RUNCH" and watched the tree literally "grow" right out of the floorboard.

I jumped up out of the seat as far as I could and the tree pierced the seat and went through to the back. I found myself sitting on the limb, pinched up against the roof. Ricky looked at me and thought it had gone through my abdomen. He opened the door and puked his guts out, he was really messed up about it.
