“I respect the jury’s verdict,” Bush said in a statement. “But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby’s sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison.”

Wow, you'd have thought he was talking about some guy with AIDS or terminal cancer in a detention facility, serving what amounts to a life sentence for marijuana possession.

Since Sandy Burgler stole from the National Archives to protect Clinton didnt get prosecuted, this is fair.

Guess Dems and Reps are even now.

Scooter didn't skate. He just had his prison sentence commuted. He still has to pay huge fines and he most likely cannot practice law anymore. He will also be on probation for two years.

Bush should have just pardoned Libby. He was completely railroaded in a political witch hunt.

The guy that leaked the name of the Democrat CIA agent to Robert Novak was NEVER charged with anything. They knew his name from day one of the investigation.

There was no crime that occurred to warrant the Special Counsel and grand jury investigation. If there was a crime, Richard Armitage would have been charged, but he wasn't. Why is that? Is it because Armitage was a liberal? He was the "so-called leaker", so if there was a crime, he should have been charged. Ironically, Libby used to be Richard Armitage's lawyer.

Libby should not have to go to jail for not remembering conversations he had with reporters. No fucking way. Tim Russert's testimony under oath to the grand jury was no less shaky then Libby's recollections. How come Tim Russert was not charged with lying for not having a good memory of certain conversations? I think we all know the answer to that.

Tim Russert was involved in all of this up to his eyeballs. His wife is a hot shot editor at Vanity Fair Magazine. I'm sure everyone recalls that when the Democrats first made an issue of this after Robert Novak's column, Valerie Plame and her husband appeared in a big spread in Vanity Fair. Like Tim Russert had nothing to do with any of this complete political bullshit story and witch hunt from the beginning. Bullshit.

This guy Libby was railroaded from the get go. Bush should have just pardoned him.

None of this should ever have happened in the first place. The entire scenario was a travesty of justice and politically motivated prosecutorial misconduct.

People who say Libby should have gone to jail usually either don't know a damn thing about the entire case or are just partisans themselves who wish to criminalize politics.

This entire case was a complete miscarriage of justice from the beginning.

You're right, if he was going to do this much, he should have pardoned. Commuting his sentence is disrespectful of the jury system and calls the process of law into opprobrium. Pardoning someone the President feels was railroaded is the privilege of the Executive, but a commutation is like saying "Sure, he was guilty, but fuck you anyway." He said he was "respectful of the jury's decision", but he immediately and with no apologies disrespected the jury's decision.

Of course, none of this really matters. What are we gonna do, not vote for him the next time? Lower his approval rating? This administration has done what it came to do, and now it's time to stagnate.

Your sarcasm aside, yes he should have been pardoned. Commuting the sentence is a bit of political cowardice on Bush's part. Why not just pardon him..... but then again Bush has been showing a lot of political cowardice in his second term.

Bush should have ordered the prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, to end the case as soon as Fitzgerald knew who the leaker was and refused to prosecute him. There was no case after that.

Instead, the prosecutor (who had unprecedented AG powers granted to him in this instance of Special Counsel) still went on a wild politically motivated witch hunt. The prosecutor clearly abused the scope of his investigation and committed prosecutorial misconduct. By Bush not putting his foot down earlier in the case, that showed political cowardice on his part.

But then again, he hired a complete incompetent, Alberto Gonzalez, by that point in time (another political coward) whose job it was to be on top of all this garbage.

Sometimes I think this guy Gonzales was one of Bush's former landscapers or something. [Freak]

How much to bet there will be more outrage about this little tart walking then this political whore who lied under oath to protect Cheney and Carl Rove from felonies.

What bullshit...
Libby wont pay a dime of this, not a fucking dime. This is shit cronies all pitch in and pay for.

Practice law? gimmie a break you think this guy had ANY intention of practicing any law again when he signed up with Cheney.

I am fucking done with this administration. I cannot imagine loathing this president more.

How did Libby lie to protect Rove or Cheney?

You have to be kidding with this bullshit. The guy who leaked Plame's name to Robert Novak was Richard Armitage. The prosecutor knew that from day one.

This whole mountain of bullshit did start about who leaked Plame's name to the media. What was there to cover up?

The prosecutor already knew who leaked the name. Why was anyone else even brought before grand juries? And... yes... there was even more than one grand jury. All for what? The case was solved even before the first grand jury was convened.

What makes you think his "shit cronies" will pay his fines?

What are you using as a political precedent? All the legal fees and fines paid by indicted and convicted "cronies" of the last administration?

Actually yeah. He took a job in the administration. There is no reason to believe that he didn't want to return to private practice after he was done working for the government.

Does Cheney require some type of deal where people must give up all future means of employment when going to work for the government? Maybe you know something that needs to be revealed.

Otherwise, you are just espousing foolish and bizarre propaganda.

In many ways I am done with them too. However, I suspect you never had anything to do with them and were completely done on Inauguration Day 2001.

And you are a leftist moron Weasel.

You can't even curb your moronic political correctness when someone you don't agree with insults the administration you have always hated.

That's beyond pathetic.

I didn't expect it to happen so soon, but I'm not surprised.

The Bush Administration has been raping the American people for seven years. They're just not hiding it anymore.

He was convicted of not remembering the details of how he found out about something that wasnt a crime to begin with.

If you ask the american public what he was convicted of, they will tell you he outed a covert CIA agent.

Hmmm. Tells you something about the people who perpetrated this witch hunt, and it also tells you it was purely political.

Libby didnt out her, that was Armitage, and she wasnt covert. How many covert agents pose on the cover of Vanity Fair?

He should have been pardoned.

I'm glad his sentence was commuted but I agree it should have been a full pardon. This was clearly a partisan witch hunt that spent millions of Taxpayer Dollars and accomplished nothing.

Now for the list of pardons that will happen just before Bush leaves office, we'll have to compare and see how many low lifes or donators get off scott free. I.E. Clinton Pardons. LINKY

If nothing else, he deserves 30 months in prison for going by "Scooter" at his age - that's a sure sign that he's a pederass.

"Eight-year-olds, Dude."
