This whole mountain of bullshit did start about who leaked Plame's name to the media. What was there to cover up?

The prosecutor already knew who leaked the name. Why was anyone else even brought before grand juries? And... yes... there was even more than one grand jury. All for what? The case was solved even before the first grand jury was convened.
