People, I am utterly stunned. Just when I thought liberals couldn't possibly cram their heads up their asses any further, liberal mecca Berkeley gives a gigantic shove. I am so enraged by this I can't even verbalize it. mad mad mad mad mad mad

Sen. Jim DeMint wrote an article about this yesterday and how is is trying to remove some of the city's earmarks.

This is just what they do with some federal tax dollars....

Quote:
I do not believe a city that has turned its back on our country's finest deserves $2 million worth of pork-barrel projects. So, I will introduce legislation to revoke the funding.

Included in the $2 million worth of pork are some particularly wasteful projects.

One earmark provides gourmet organic lunches to schools in the Berkeley School District. While our Marines are making due with MREs of Sloppy Joe and Chili with Beans, the organization Chez Panisse is getting federal tax dollars to design meals that promote "environmental harmony." Chez Panisse's menu features "Comté cheese soufflé with mâche salad," "Meyer lemon éclairs with huckleberry coulis" and "Chicory salad with creamy anchovy vinaigrette and olive toast."

Are we to understand that the city that has been home to many of the country's most rich and famous cannot afford to pay for its own designer school lunches?

Another $975,000 earmark is for the Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service at U.C. Berkeley, which may include cataloging the papers of Congressman Robert Matsui. Is it really necessary to tax the paychecks of Marines so we can earmark nearly $1 million for a school that is already sitting on a $3.5 billion endowment?

Let me be clear, my bill does does not cut off all federal funds to the city of Berkeley, though I am sure most Americans would feel that is justified. My bill merely rescinds wasteful earmarks. Berkeley is free to compete with other towns and cities across America for merit-based federal grants.

Actions have consequences. When the Berkeley City Council decided to insult the Marines in a time of war, it was a $2 million decision. Especially in a time of war, we cannot just allow cities to play insulting games at our troops' expense while continuing to shower them with congressional favors.
I think he is being to nice. I say all federal subsidies should be revoked from the city.

You do realize..... It is politicians like these people in Berkeley who would be filling spots in a future Hillary or Obama administration.

Wow...that tirade was almost as passionate as the one they gave when Blockbuster opened a store on Telegraph.

No need to thank me (although it's appreciated), thank all the hard chargers that are picking sand out of their asses. I never got the chance since I went to boot camp a couple of weeks after the first Gulf War started and it ended too quickly.

I highly recommend a book I just finished, Generation Kill by Evan Wright. The author rode with Recon Marines who were the tip of the spear during the Iraq invasion. Amazing reading. In fact, those idiots on the Berkeley council should be forced to read it.

I'm nowhere near California but would discourage anyone from spending a dime anywhere in Berkeley. The city elected those freaks, and if the city is shunned and made to suffer economically, maybe they'll vote them out of office.

About removing the earmarks, that's all fine and good, but who introduced such ridiculous crap into the budget to begin with?

Fuck me for making fun of the Berkeley City Council?

Well, I had no idea you were such a fan.

In case you misunderstood my point, the Berkeley City Council had an absolute shit-fit when Blockbuster wanted to open a store on Telegraph Avenue. They already had a store on Shattuck and Channing, and the Council felt that a second store, especially one in the epicenter of the boutique-hippy part of town, was taking the piss. They held protests, vigils, rallied, called the press, and I mean they got really crazy. They compared Blockbuster to the Mongol Horde, went into trances, invoked the spirits of their ancestors, burned incense, sang Kumbaya and "All We Are Saying, Is Give Peace A Chance". Blockbuster pulled out, and built six blocks south, on the Oakland side. My cousin told me that the storefront that Blockbuster had planned to rent remained vacant for almost three years.

So fuck you, you Berkeley City Council sycophant.
