Do they want us to get involved in shithole countries' problems or not? Right now, I see the same people saying we need to get out of Iraq also saying we need to go into Darfur. Really, what the fuck folks? Are we tired of being shot at by Arab muslims and now need to give the non-Arab ones a shot as well? What's in it for us? At least Iraq is a keystone in the middle east. It being stable and friendly is kind of important for our well being. Darfur is just another African nation where eeryone is out for themselves and has no interest in forming a heterogenous nation. Not to be callous, but we can't help everyone and if you don't provide a benefit to us beyond feeling good about ourselves, I say tough luck. Time for Darwinism to begin culling the herd.

You just expressed my frustration with the liberals in this country.

What about the conservatives?

WMD...Iraq but not North Korea?

Liberation...Iraq but not Dafur?

It goes both ways.

The problem with Sudan and Dafur is the people who are committing the murders and genocide are the Muslims.

I do think this region is a problem, but it is not a problem that requires United States direct military intervention.

This is a problem the African Union needs to be involved with, and they have been to a certain extent. But it is not enough and the African Union itself has all kinds of political problems.

This is also a United Nations problem. The UN is a failed organization because it refuses to admit that the problem in the Sudan is an Islamic related problem. They refuse to admit that Muslims will not co-exist with non-Muslims in the Sudan.

Unless the UN openly recognizes the problem, it would be a mistake for the United States to get directly involved military.

Let the liberals protest the UN regarding Darfur. They themselves are mired in the same ignorance and political correctness regarding the true problems of the region as the feckless UN.

And the last time North Korea launched a nuclear attack was??? North Korea doesn't do squat and doesn't have squat that we want. They are just a Cold War hold out. Iraq had terrorist training camps before we went in. North Korea might have a nut case in charge, but he's smart enough not to go fucking with his neighbors.

About the main topic, they are celebrities. Who gives a rats ass what they say? Most of them involved in the political topics are high school drop outs. They have been divorced a zillion times or are on their nth wife/husband. They'd rather live in any country but ours. Yeah, such great role models. They definitely know what's best for our country.

It's amazing how they can sway public opinion. There's enough stupid people in this country to make a mental connection that celebrity status must automatically mean this person knows WTF they're talking about.

Blame the media for giving them their voice.

Average joes like the rest of us should get equal time to present a normal, rational person's point of view, but it'll never happen, because I don't generate TV news ratings like Alec Baldwin and Rosie O'Donnell - the premier authorities on everything.

Celebrities are just attention whores! Whatever they think will make them more visible to the public is what they "believe" in.

If Alec Baldwin spewed right wing propaganda you guys would treat him like John Effing Wayne and make him the Pope of Regular Joe Town. Alas, Baldwin and his ilk are elitist, pansy liberals so, on the celebrity front, you're left with a bunch of two-bit snake oil cable and radio broadcasters to fight for what you see as the good fight in the mass market media outlets.

How much do celebrities sway public opinion? I'm really interested in seeing some sort of study. I'd guess that it'd be far, far less in matters of government than in, say, what kind of sunglasses or jeans you'd buy at the mall.

Blame the media for giving them a voice, sure, but blame yourselves for watching.

Wrong again. He's a fucking actor, not an authority on politics.

In any event, you'd never see that happen, because beyond Charlton Heston, who the media crucified when he was president of the NRA, Hollywood actors are all idealist liberals with no basis in reality.

As for your last comment...just try to get away from it. It floods every form of media.

Show me a celebrity with a Political Science degree and I might give them half an ear on their opinion.

I sometimes think we should just bring all our troops home and use them to protect our boarders (you just can't trust those Canadians these days :p ). Then let the world come to us and ask for help. And then our first response should be, "Have you gone to the UN first? That is their job." And then if we decide to step in we just tell them we are going to do it our way and there shall be no whining about our tactics.

I know none of that is realistic, but it would certainly be interesting to see the world learn to think for itself or implode.

Trust me man I would take my chances in Iraq as opposed to working the southern border (thats why im back in the Army as opposed to being a Border Patrol Agent). At least in Iraq we are allowed to shoot back. Down here Agents are shot at all the time and you never hear about it. When they sit on their "X" they are behind bullet proof glass. The mexican army also covers large shipments out east of El Paso in Hudspeth County and pot shots at Agents and Deputies are common. Also the Natinoal Guardsmen on the border are un-armed????? No thanks!!!!

There are conservatives. They just tend to not say much.

Among them...

Bruce Willis
Stephen Baldwin (yes, there is a Baldwin who is conservative - or at least, born-again)
Clint Eastwood
Dennis Miller
Chuck Norris
Patricia Heaton
James Woods
Robert Duvall

(Note that I didn't put Arnold in there - he's not conservative by any stretch of the imagination)

Guess that means we shouldn't take anything you say seriously unless it involved telecom?

Which, ironically, would include this issue, wouldn't it? laugh

Careful what you say about Alec Baldwin.

He might call you a "rude, thoughtless, little pig". He could also threaten to "fly out for the day just to straighten you out". eek

I didn't really imagine that it would ever happen - I mean c'mon, a Pope of Regular Joe Town? That's just silly. The Jews don't even believe in Pope's and everyone knows that behind the scenes they control everything, especially Hollywood.

Seriously though, I don't feel overloaded by liberal or conservative sentiments in media outlets at all. It only happens when I read internet forums.
