And about the age of kids - it's not necessarily for the dog's benefit. Even if a dog HAS been socialized properly, there's no telling how it may react to a five year old yanking on it's tail. You may find yourself with a trip to the hospital. I agree that large dogs don't belong in an apartment. The Humane Society where I adopted my dogs from interviewed me to make sure I had a suitable home, took a copy of my license (which has my address on it), and made sure that I knew I was in for a 10-12 year commitment. Stray and unwanted dogs are put down everyday - most of these are mixed breeds that the "rescuers" don't care about. IMHO, purebred dogs are bred for money. With all of the extra dogs out there no one should be breeding dogs.

The rules are in place to protect the animals. The people who take the animals sign a contract agreeing to the rules.
Just because Ellen is a celebrity doesn't absolve her from any rules or anything she or her partner had signed.
If Ellen really wanted that dog for a friend or employee, she could have put a hold on the dog at the shelter. Then brought her friends to the shelter to complete whatever proper rules and paperwork that were in place.
Ellen didn't do that. What makes it worse, she took the issue to her show and unfairly portrayed the situation.
Shame on Ellen. Wow! I actually AGREE with NYMM! But he's right on this one. These groups are there to protect the animals under their care. There are too many people that "want" a particular dog/cat because they just do - at the moment. They don't think in terms of the long haul. Most of these animals they will have for many years. That's a long commitment to make. Most don't think about that. And because these groups CARE about the animals, they are merely trying to make sure the home (yes, a home because you are bringing in a new life to your home as PART OF YOUR FAMILY) will care for them for the long term. And yes, Ellen was completely wrong for trying to use her celebrity and her show to circumvent the rules she (actually her "girlfriend") agreed to. In her defense though, she didn't sign the papers her "girlfriend" did. But that doesn't mean she doesn't have to follow the rules anyway. If my wife signed something I didn't agree with, I'd still have to abide by the terms of the contract and so should Ellen. I firmly believe that this will come back to haunt her, in time... -G

There is something wrong with day time television.
Ellen, Oprah and Rosie. Junkies for personal attention and controversy. Seriously, who gives a flying fuck about some stupid woman who wants a dog back. We have teenagers dying in Iraq, families losing homes and a butt load of other domestic issues. Do you really expect anybody with a positive IQ to give a damn about a selfish bitch who uses her status (and money) to get personal attention. Thank you, I'll pass.
