Actually, I haven't been watching it, but a coworker was telling me about it. Sounds pretty interesting. What time is it on?

Yeah but it seams like these guys are the sterotypes of Canada. I have met a few canadians in my life in fact one of them is on this board. He sounds nothign like these guys do.

Like the show.

I work in TV and loved the recent episode of sending a camera down with a diver under the ice road. The technology to get that equipment to still work at low temps is crazy.

I like the guys but am fearful that it glorifies the fact that they drive for 20, 30 even 40 hours straight without sleep.

We think American voices are annoying and they think ours are....we could debate this forever! But its fun

On the topic, I was just talking about this last night, I live near the Washington/Vancouver border, its funny how you go less than50km into the USA and the accents start.

I don't find accents annoying myself, I like hearing different accents and dialects. It's interesting sometimes to find out a slang word used was actually derived from a perfectly good word from 200 years ago.

Some say the Canadian accent, but I have been in 6 of the 10 provinces and they all have different accents, some even have variations within the same province.

It is the same as saying an American accent, there is not one American accent, there are several. Just compare accents from Chicago, Boston, New York, New Orleans, Houston and Miami. Non of them are alike.

Back on topic. Here's an interesting slide show on the ice roads: http://www.diavik.ca/News/2006/Winter%20Road%20Slides.pdf

I thought the first 2 episodes were interesting because I never knew anything like that went on, but I have a feeling it's going to get a little old pretty quick.

You'd have to pay me a lot more then those guys are making to get me to drive on those lakes.

No effects of Global Warming yet 'eh?

I haven't had the chance to catch the show, but it looks interesting on the surface.

Good show. Picks up nicely where Deadliest Catch left off.

Both shows are enjoyable to watch from 113 degree Phoenix.

Dunno if it's global warming or not, but there was an article on the ice road in C&D recently and it mentioned that the period of time that the trucks can get up the road is getting shorter and shorter - which adds a ton of cost because it's far more expensive to airlift supplies as opposed to bringing them via truck (and of course some things can only come via truck). Take it for what it's worth - no need to turn this into a global warming debate (start another thread if you want that).

The C&D article also said the show severely over-dramatized the reality of the job, and that it's actually pretty mundane and extremely safe. Statistically safer, in fact, than being a trucker down in the lower 48.

Still, could be interesting for an episode or two. Problem is, the history channel isn't available in HD, and I've grown spoiled and mostly just watch HD programing anymore. smile

Just thought I'd stoke the fire. I agree it may be glamorized a bit, but if it weren't then nobody would find it interesting. I'll find out first hand when I can catch a show or two.

I've got a few years or so before I can afford HD anything.

I wonder what supplies they wont need if it is getting warmer up there and if that offsets the load capacity of the trucks?

No matter what the temperature, if you look hard you'll find someone suffering. I myself would love to be suffering on a nice warm beach sipping some Ice cold Beer. wink
