Dunno if it's global warming or not, but there was an article on the ice road in C&D recently and it mentioned that the period of time that the trucks can get up the road is getting shorter and shorter - which adds a ton of cost because it's far more expensive to airlift supplies as opposed to bringing them via truck (and of course some things can only come via truck). Take it for what it's worth - no need to turn this into a global warming debate (start another thread if you want that).

The C&D article also said the show severely over-dramatized the reality of the job, and that it's actually pretty mundane and extremely safe. Statistically safer, in fact, than being a trucker down in the lower 48.

Still, could be interesting for an episode or two. Problem is, the history channel isn't available in HD, and I've grown spoiled and mostly just watch HD programing anymore. smile [/b]
Just thought I'd stoke the fire. I agree it may be glamorized a bit, but if it weren't then nobody would find it interesting. I'll find out first hand when I can catch a show or two.

I've got a few years or so before I can afford HD anything.

I wonder what supplies they wont need if it is getting warmer up there and if that offsets the load capacity of the trucks?

No matter what the temperature, if you look hard you'll find someone suffering. I myself would love to be suffering on a nice warm beach sipping some Ice cold Beer. wink
