Finally the looks of the hummer H3 have been unveiled at "automobile magazine", also... in the key competitors is the new X:

Base price around 35,000 and only ~220 HP? Pfft. The 05 Xterra can be priced 10,000 less, and has more power to boot.

But of course, the H3 will sell. Those who feel the urge to bling but can't quite afford an H2, can get these as a "starter kit" to the world of ballin'.

I'd take the new X any day... save the money for a lift and locker, wait no, it has one! siiick.

that is almost the same size as the H2... and 220hp sounds real low for something that looks that large.

Hummer could have done so much more with these vehicles.

The exterior still screams "small wang" and it costs WAY too much for what it is. That I5 motor really sucks - its a pretty new design and GM had to have known about the Nissan and Toyota V6 engines on the horizon. They blew it on that one. Supposedly a blown should be released after a year or two, but then you'd be at over $40,000. [ThumbsDown]

That said, I wish the X had those approach/depature angles, stock tires, and especially the locker. Luckily the '05 will solve the locker problem.

My overall review = [Rainbow]

Hummer just licensed its name to GM - the H3 is basically a Chevy Colorado (w/ some mods).

The H2 is just an odd assortment of Suburban, Tahoe, and Silvarado parts.

I just read from two seperate sites, and one says the H3 will have 350 HP while another says 220. Maybe it comes in two trims?

http://www.edmunds.com/future/2005/hummer/h3/100301493/specs.html?tid=edmunds.f.review.leftsidenav..1.HUMMER*

There's mention of a turbo.

The 350 HP is probably the blown motor I mentioned - I thought it was a year or two off, though. I think it's still that inline 5 motor.

But 350 seems like a hell of a boost from 220 w/ just a blower? Maybe it is a different motor?

Welcome to 5 months ago wink they been showing them at test/evaluation sessions since before summer.

Not that I would buy one but I liked them better than the H2's, projected price ~ 32k during my session for the standard 4 door model, 30k for the 2 door and SUT was ~ 34k.

www.hummer.com says 220! which is weak as hell for something that ways over 4000lb's...

and i know GM owns hummer, but i am saying they could have gone more the jeep/toyota 4runner of 85 road. instead they are building they fucken tonka toys. you cant use these huge things on trails and they chug gas.

It looks more and more like a Jeep Cherokee, the old one, not the Grand.

Wolfman,
How would the X hold up in a head on collision with a Dodge Ram at 50mph?

Everyone else,
As a past previous X(SE) owner, on my 5th Pathfinder (88SE, 93SE, 96SE, 98SE, 03SE) and on my 3rd H2 (03Adventure, 04Lux, 05Lux), I can attest to the on AND offroad prowess of both, and the reliability of both brands. Yes, the nissan is a much better build product and the H2s have had at least 5 recalls per vehicle on the first two...buuuuuuuut

stock off road, I have to say that my 98Path was by far the most fun, but the Hummers have been more capable...just my humble 2c. Hate away.

How and why did you go through H2s so fast???

No one's saying the H2 is useless offroad. It's just general assumption that the drivers don't do anything but mall cruising in them. Do you blame us?

Thank you, it's not a Hummer. You're not going to rid the world of terrorists in your heavy duty, mother of all trucks Hummer. It's another Chevy piece of shit.

The H2 should perform pretty decently off-road. Its biggest problem imo is that it weighs 6400 pounds and won't fit in a lot of places. Plus those stock "rockrails" are extremely low and it has some inherent design flaws (did somebody say tie rods?). Anyway, in an off-the-lot comparison an H2 (or possibly an H3) could very well perform better than the current X in some locations due to its far better stock tires, if for no other reason. I still think that size is a pretty big hindrance, though.

Why have you gone thru three of 'em so quickly?

I believe that when the H2 Hummer came out it had something like an average of 153 problems per year. Ya... Bling bling away, until you tire falls off. And I hate the "but the army says its a good car". ya, well the army also fixs their vehicle up, probably every rest point (atleast once a month). I personally think the car is a retarded. I don't have strong hatred for the cars or anything, but if my car can take a tow rope, and flip it, then it ain't that amazing.

That pic is ancient, it was back when the H2 first went on sale, and the Ram was the last of 3 vehicles the H2 tangled with. Considering the damage to the Ram, you gotta imagine the kinetic energy it had already shed in the first two impacts. No wonder the thing looks like it tangled with a semi...

the xterra has weak stock tie rods too, not just the h2,,,think about the tremendous amount of stress put on any steering system when fully articulated and turning a wheel when its stuck in a rut...of course they're going to break...the stock xterra rails hinder the vehicle too...

bottom line, to off road any vechicle its going to need to be modified somewhat, even jeeps, x's, and defenders because off roading DOES break parts, not matter how well built the truck is (ie Top Truck Challenge with 4wheeler mag)

parts break when you wheel, trucks need to be modded to suit an individual and they're offroading style etc

as for mall cruising,,, im sure there are just as many Xterra in existence that have NEVER been offroad just like mall crusing H2s...
