Started my Pathy, Check Engine light came on. Truck was sluggish, trans wouldnt shift. Pulled into a Kroger lot and shut it down. Cleared the code, tried to restart. Wont start. Doesnt even try to roll the engine over.

I have no idea what to try, had to leave it at Kroger. I've found very little info on this code so any help would be great.

Geez... well assuming it's the same as the Xterra code-wise it's a failure to communicate between the transmission control module and the ECM. The service manual just tells you to check for wiring harness problems between the two.

an interesting quote:
"The malfunction information related to A/T (Automatic Transmission) is transferred through the line (circuit)
from TCM (Transmission control module) to ECM. Therefore, be sure to erase the malfunction information such
as DTC not only in TCM (Transmission control module) but also ECM after the A/T related repair."

OK. I found 1 post on the web about the A/T Cont fuse. Checked mine, it was blown. Replaced it, blew again.

Off to the dealer.

No luck so far. They wanted permission to chase wire @ $85 an hour. I told them to try for 2 hours and we'll see where we end up.

That sucks, but most Dealers I've used will waive a diagnostic fee if they complete the repair. I'd ask them about that.

Good luck!

I wouldnt mind paying a few hundred to get her running again but listening to the service writer you'd think I was supposed to just write her off!

As he's introducing you to the Sales guy I'm sure. Don't let it die, I know it's a pathy, but these trucks are going to be rare someday.

See if you can talk to the actual tech working on it. There is always a translation barrier between Service Writer and Tech. Not to mention office politics.

I went through the 6 pages of Google and only found one good reference, but you can't see it, unless you signup for their site.

This sucks I hope you get it figured out.

Dealer called, shes running. No longer blowing fuses. Said that the truck is still throwing the P1605 code though. I asked if they had driven it, see if the trans is in 'limp mode', he said not yet.

He said that the remote start was 'in the way' and they couldn't get to the TCM. Ugh. Does no one add after market stuff? Sorry but it seems like they're using it as an excuse.

Once shes drivable I'm taking her to the shop that installed the remote start and have it removed.

Yup, and I needed her for trade. Shes still worth a nice bit. Titan or Silverado...not sure yet.

Service put one of their master techs on my truck this morning. He noticed a burned wire near the brake pedal lever up under the dash. It was part of my remote start system. They pulled the entire remote start system, replaced the fuse, cleared the codes and she runs like a champ.

I talked to the service writer for a few minutes when I picked her up. He commented on the poor install done by the shop that sold me the remote start. After thinking for a moment I realized I caused the problem, not a poor install.

I have a Scangage II and use a 15 foot Cat 5 cable to extend the OBDII connector so I could connect to other cars. Wednesday I plugged into a guys truck to read a code, then stuffed the cable under the dash and caused the short. Figures.

They cut me a break on labor, $278 for the repair work, which I'm happy to pay versus a fried ECM or TCM.

Thanks for everyones help.

Sorry, Kevin, I just got your email and went to this thread.

Glad you got it figured out.

I haven't been on the 'net lately, been dealing with my Great Grandma being in the hospital in St. Louis for the last 3 weeks. 95 years old, and finally passed Wed morning. Been hard. Sorry.
