FYI, in order to get the compressor to engage when you are in the defrost settings (knob all the way over to the right "windshield" settings), you have to turn the blower fan on. It doesn't matter whether or not you also have the AC button pushed in. The compressor should come on in defrost with fan on regardless of the position of the AC button.
