I was about to post a thread about this as well, but you beat me to it! I saw the end of a Nissan commercial last night with this. I saw the red X logo on the screen out of the corner of my eye and just caught a glimpse of the www.showusyourX.com sign. Haven’t seen the whole commercial yet.

But a word of warning for anyone visiting that site with their laptop. I’m not sure what the deal it with their website but I had a full battery on my laptop that normally lasts 2 hours on charge. I went to that site and began the registration process and noticed my laptop was getting warm and the resource meter was peaked out. I looked at the task manager and found that internet explorer was using 97% of the CPU! My battery indicator also said I only had 15 minutes of life left! This was after being on that website for only 5 minutes! All I had running was that site, my email, and yahoo messenger.

Yeah, it's very flash heavy.

It's called Flash - you can blame Macromedia for that, and the morons who decided develop the site in Flash. Flash is good for making things look, well, flashy, but IMO the showusyourx site is ass, and all of their UI design folks and most of their developers should be fired.

Any developer that hasn't sold his soul will make a non-flash version and put a link to it on the site so you have the option of being spared all the bling-bling.

Wow. That site is horrible. I never was much into flash and this confirms that it is still a waste of ones and zeros. Slow, clunky, and hard to navigate. NISSAN what were you thinking? Great idea down the crapper.

On broadband it isn't too bad. But they should have a lil linky that takes you to an old school page, just incase.

Bleeecccch. That site blows! And I was really looking forward to sending them a coupla cool shots of my X, but after about 20 seconds on this site I see what everyone is bitchin' about!



FYI, this has nothing to do with "Flash" per se, this is simply the product of a lousy Actionscript programmer. I've worked in Flash for a loooongggg time, and it's a very elegant (although often-misused) tool. You really have to know what you're doing. There's a simple memory leak in their Flash code. I can almost guarantee the designers forget to discard unused movie clips, so every time you click on anything, it just spools out another never-ending MC. If you leave your browser open for a long period of time it will crash... Lame.



Man I gotta get out more.

Well go to page 3 low and behold (noghing against your X Allen) but they have Phoenix pictured in the upper left corner.

Didn't they try something akin to this forever ago with xterra.com? They had this whole deal where you could post photos & stories of your exploits and they'd send you decals with icons of said exploits - mtn bikes or kayaks or blahblahblah - to advertise to the world how fun & active & super-duper the Xterra community is. Site was just as flashy-flashy as this one, but the whole decal-reward thing was pretty cool.

Then one day the link to xterra.com just kicked back to nissanusa.

So are they gonna dump this one as well when people get sick of waiting on the thing to load?

ya, thats a bummer how slow that site is because it is a pretty cool idea. im just impatient and dont want to wait for the whole thing to load!

Wow!I never had any trouble with the sight and I think it's a cool concept. Even on the less than adequate computers at work the sight pulls up pretty well.
I've never seen the TV spot so I can't comment on that. I hope the website continues to improve.
Ofcourse I have to put in a good word because thats my Rig on the title page!
