i think it was set up that way so buy and sell ads dont get f'ed up with stupid comments or suggestions that have nothing to do with the item being bought or sold. at least thats why i would have set it up that way.

Exactly. It used to be open to replies, but people's ads would just end up in flame wars and crap so a decision was made to require you to email or pm the person directly. FYI is "for your information."
