Is this thread about crossing the Golden Crack or about IFS vs solid axle?

It's clear that either design is capable of crossing the crack, and this discussion need not be turned into a shooting match between Ian's "not 100% globally accurate" comment about IFS and ILUVMYX's rebuttals.

Most of us already know and accept that solid axles are better for off-roading, because of articulation and durability, but independent suspensions are better for the pavement. But I'd venture to say that if Nissan had built the X with a solid front axle, it might not have sold as well... For every Xterra owner who has shifted the t-case lever, there are many times more who don't even know what 4-LO means. I mean, even Jeep, the "ruler" of the off-road industry succumb to market demand for IFS... hence, the Liberty.

Anyway, I look forward to attempting to cross the crack next April with any number of other IFS vehicles... nice pics to whet my appetite for wheeling. wink
