Nice pics, guys. I've was contemplating taking a stab at that trail this year, but have been cautioned against it by a friend (Yota on 35s). He said that is has gotten 100x worse since we ran it in 2004.

Last time I was up there (last year) we weren't able to finish due to a broken Dana 44 (in the group) just past the first obstacle .

I guess I find Bill's warnings about the trail conditions a little silly if several IFS Xterras made the full run this year.

Do you guys have any pictures of the trail above the first obstacle? The pictures I'm viewing skip from the first obstacle on Eagle Rock straight to Baldy Road. Perhaps it's been "fixed" and I don't recognize it? Perhaps they're not all posted yet?

I'm curious because, if it's passable, I may run that trail before I havta go back on the road. I need all the "intel" I can get before attempting this trail again.....

[ThumbsUp]

Jeff,

We turned around at the first obstacle because of the number of vehicles we had and the amount of time it would have required for us to get everyone through the rest of the trail. Make no mistake about it, your friend's report IS accurate. The section after the first obstacle will make life uncomforatble for an IFS Xterra. It's not so much the hill after the first obstacle as it is the washed out, rocky, left hand turn half way up it.

We were able to get Chris through that turn but it took some time, a dash of good spotting, a pinch of good driving and nerves of steel for both spotter and driver. It was definetly not an obstacle I was willing to lead a group of eight Xterras over with the amount of traffic that was on that trail. We could have done it (since we did find the correct line for an IFS Xterra) but it would have been selfish to make built rigs wait for us as we spotted stockers through it.

If you try it be ready to have that left hand turn work every bit of articulation your Xterra has to offer (a locker would be very useful for this obstacle). As for the rest of the trail it was no issue at all as we lead everyone up to the first obstacle without issue. Even the hill after the left hand turn was not an issue.

PS - Jordan's SASed '05 walked right up the left hand turn without even breaking a sweat.

Thanks for all tho info, Vince. I'm impressed that you got an IFSer through that turn based on the photos I've seen this year. I think I won't be messing around up there in the next few days unless I'm feeling extra reckless. That trail is notorious for mechanical breakdowns and severe body damage. I imagine this looks familiar:

^This^ spot happens to be a good line for an IFS Xterra. This video was shot at an angle that makes it look easy, but those who have seen it or done it know it's a huge rock on the left side of the vehicle.

Skaggs, that's Morpheous, good lookin' dog, right? Even my dog wasn't sure what to do about him, he's not used to meeting dogs which are bigger..
Jeff, you're right. You made that dirt look easy to drive over.

Matt's line took his rear over this rock!

There are more I'd like to show, but I think I'll be takin up too much space. The rest are here . If you want the full version of anything, just let me know! laugh

Thanks to everyone for spotting me and my lowrid-- *cough* stocker! I had a really great time -- and only ALMOST provided my own body damage!

The section that took a lot to get trough was very tippy. I saw the lev-o-gauge get to over 36 degree. have no visual pics but it burnt into my brain. would have been great pics. Had great slider and side wall use. had to get rocks out between tire and wheel with a screwdriver after a leak started. Always a good time.

You are correct. There were no winches in our group for Eagle Rock.
