I am currently looking to purchase the 2004 Xterra SE 4X4. Should I wait for the 2005 model or buy the 2004? I like the look of the 2004 more than the 2005(I have only seen pics). The $2400 rebate sounds pretty good since I figure they will not have one on the 2005 model being it is a new design. Another factor is my 80 mile round trip drive to work everyday. How is the gas mileage on the current V6 versus the new V6? Any input would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance! confused

The 2005 Pathfinder has mileage estimated at 15-23 MPG. The 2005 Xterra will have the same motor, minus a little horsepower and torque.

The 2004 Xterra is estimated to have 17-20, although you will easily find people on this board who only get about 15 MPG, myself included.

Simply put, you're buying an suv so don't expect Civic mileage. Just to keep yourself from disapointment, start expecting mileage in the high-teens at best.

Personally I would wait for the 05s. Whether or not they offer any incentives for it, it is worth the wait and the extra money. It is a jump of 70 HP and 70 Lbs of torque. There are too many new things to list here, but go to www.nissanusa.com to check up on it.

Drive both and see what you like. Personally I'd wait for the '05, but I still love my '01 and plan on keeping it for quite some time.

Mileage will probably be similar (translation: shitty).

Another option: I know they have quality problems, look [Rainbow] , and only come w/ a slushbox, but if you really want an SUV but need good mileage you could check out a Diesel KJ. I like Xterras a lot better, but the diesel KJ should get a lot better mileage and still give you similar capabilities and performance (compared to the '04 - an '05 X will seriously outperform the KJ). I would mention a hybrid escape also, but they are just lifted cars.

depends you gnona lift it armor it and wheel it

Or are you gonna be a pavement pounder?

If your gonna wheel it id be more inclined towards a 2003 or 2004. If your gonna mall crawl go for the 05.

reason being not much is being made for the 05. And unless your a SERIOUS offroader you might not want to be the first to try something new on a brand new vehicle.

The '05 should be more capable than the '04.

Also, I would guess that the aftermarket for the '05 should catch up to and surpass what we have available quite rapidly. The new front suspension is very similar to what Toyota has had for quite awhile - so it shouldn't take too much for companies to start tweaking their Toyota parts to work in an Xterra.

Dealers will be more desperate to sell 2004s when they have 2005s on their lot. If you could wait that long you could compare them right on the spot and if you still prefer the 2004, you get to really bargain with them and acquire a real steal deal.

Either will be a great ride/truck/suv.

After doing alot more reading and research there are just too many reasons not to wait for the 2005 model. It appears to me they have fixed most of the major complaints current Xterra owners have about the vehicle. I just hope Nissan trys to hurry it along to the dealers and I do not have to wait until march to get one. Thanks again for the help! [ThumbsUp]
