My open differential (unlocked) 05X made it up this obstacle - then a Jeep Wrangler tried it, and needed to be winched up by an Xterra!

Nice picture!
By the way... do you live in Katy? I know I saw you turning into Creek Bend a few weeks ago (not enough modded Xs around to mistake yours.) If so I live in Raintree Village and we really need to get together for some local wheeling. We try to get out at least once a month but usually a little more often. There are some decent places to wheel close by and even better the further you are willing to drive.
PM me and I will give you my cell#

Nice pic! BTW - I just want to point out that one rig winching another does not really mean the tow-er is a superior off road rig to the tow-ee.... and In general, longer wheel base rigs out climb shorter wheel base rigs...as the extra length spreads/distributes the loads better, and also reduces the chances of falling over backwards on a climb, etc. So X's should outclimb jeeps on most climbs that do not require too much front articulation.

TJ,
I completely agree with you - I am sure the driver's skill and chosen line also have a lot to do with maybe why he struggled.
Others here at XOC actually helped this Jeep up this hill (I think Kev from RMXC was one). Possibly they could comment as to why the Jeep couldn't do it on its own. I was not a witness.
jjrasta,
The lift is the AC springs in the front and the AAL in the back (about a 2" lift).

We asked the guy if he wanted a safety line, and he said yes. This was the first time he ever tried an obsticle like this (maybe even 4wheeling). We were glad to help him out, but we used the winch as a safety line before he even started the run up.

From the video clips I saw it looked like the jeep had his parking brake on for part of the ride up and had no clue what he was doing.

He was not aired down, until we asked him and yes he left the parking brake on half way up. But when he got to the top, he had a huge smile on his face and it looked as if he really enjoyed it.

Hi Doug ! Good job on Wipe-Out Hill. I have a couple of things for ya. First of all I captured a video of your heroic descent. Going down Wipe-Out Hill I have an image of the sign for Wipe-Out Hill. And another vantage point of your ascent. It was great to meet you and ride with you.

TJ In general, longer wheel base rigs out climb shorter wheel base rigs I think it all depends on the current obstacle. On Kane's Creek Rd at the staircase it took us each about 10 min to get up, because our wheelbase was to long. 2 Rubi's come behind us and walked right up the same obstacle. I know you said "generally" but I think there is no perfect wheelbase for every situation.
