I did do a search but I wanted to know if using steel rims vs. using an alloy has a large effect on your gas milage.. My X is my DD and I drive alot in city, stop and go traffic, so I don't want to kill my gas milage anymore then it already is. But I don't want to be out $100+ if I ever bend a wheel. Has anyone noticed anything??

I noticed a little when i put the 33x12.5's BFG M/t's on with steel rims, but not enough to realy care. I'm sure its not gonna be an issue.

A slight difference.

I went from the Grabbers on the 16" alloys which were about 55lbs to the BFG M/T on 15" steel wheels which are about 69lbs each.

I lost about 1 mpg overall but I'm not sure if it was the steel wheels or the mud terrain tires or a combination of both that accounts for the slight loss in gas mileage.

its the tires, softer compound, and more aggressive tread.

i recently switched to steel wheels and have noticed no difference in mpg, nor have i ever considered that it would.

Not to mention going from stock size to 33s is a weight difference in itself laugh
