I'm wrong about a lot of things, I guess full compression is one of them. Sorry to confuse people less mechanically-inclined than I(if that's possible).

And yes, the whip cracks several times a day. Marriage is such a grand thing. And about trimming.. nearly every time I come back from 'wheeling the X gets a full inspection for damage, etc. So yeah, she'd notice.
And another thing. I had a friend turn the wheel while I watched for rub, and there's none at all. I've got a bout a half inch gap at closest.
