Anyone have any antenna of this type on their X? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1835385326 I'm not too fond of the stock antenna that's on my X, and was thinking of replacing it with this one (or a similar one). There's nothing on Xterraparts.com for antenna replacement, so I don't know if this is a good idea/brand/etc or not. Any thoughts? Thanks, DM

I have one similar to that but its all metal and not flexible. But I got it off ebay as well and so far its worked well. But I rarely listen to the radio so I wouldn't really know the difference. All I know is that the antenna is way shorter now and so it doesn't hit all the low ceilings. Doens't look half bad either.

I took the stock one off my Focus, cut it down to about 10" and put it on the X. Looks kick ass. Also I picked this one web page up for the car and it fits the X nicely with the adapter piece found in those cheapo Wal-Mart ones.

I have that exact antenna, got it off of ebay recently. I like it, but I have noticed that reception is not as good as the stock antenna.
Another option is to get a billet antenna, which is solid aluminum and thicker. I would imagine that it has better reception since aluminum is a very good conductor, whereas the rubber-type is not.

I bought the billet antenna from 4 wheel parts. I bought it for $10. I like it. The reception is the same as my stock radio antenna.

The rubber one on e-bay is the same as the one sold at radio shack for half the price. I think i picked mine up there for $5.99.

Yup, that rubber one can be found at Radio Shack for $6 or $7, and it sure as hell isn't Xterra specific.

I found mine at Cdn Tire, 12$Cdn I think, for some reason our Radio Shack don't carry them stock. Rather have all rubber, kids around here seem to like to wack the antenna as they walk by.

Something to think about that someone once said in a previous discussion about this antenna... The stock antenna is pretty much the same height as the rest of the truck (assuming no add-on rack, lights, etc.) so gauging parking garages, etc. is a little easier.
I'm tempted to replace mine with the rubber one too, but I'm a little skittish with regards to the reception...

I haven't noticed much if any difference, even on road trips towards New York / NH or Toronto.. I lose the signal more or less at the same point as I did with a stock antenna.. within the city, no difference.

If you look close you can see the $6 AutoZone antenna, all rubber, same reception. Next project is tint front windows to match.

Damn, that looks like the exact antenna I got off of ebay, except I paid twice as much. ![[Uh Oh !]](graemlins/uhoh.gif) Oh well... In regards to the CB antenna (I assume you are referring to the magnetic mount of similar size?), I had one when I first got my Cobra 75, but tossed it when I couldn't get squat for range & reception. So, I did something similar to what most people have done...EZ-over mount w/ a Firestik, mounted very discreetly along the rack rail. Looks very nice and doesn't scream redneck like a lot of other antennas do.
