I just got and installed new PIAA star white 9007 bulbs in my X. I really light the brightness of them. My concern is the package states they are 55/65=100/110. Now I thought that PIAA made pretty much OE wattage bulbs so you would not have to worry about melting. I asked the sales person and he said that they should not melt the Xterra headlight lenses or wires. If I am reading it right the bulb draws 55/65 but looks like 100/110? can nyone help me? I really don't want to melt my headlights, especially since I just got whole new headlights under warranty. PLease someone help me. will these melt or are they good.

You will be fine. I have them and have no probs. I did do the driving light mod to help out in a way. I will not drive with the PIAAs and the driving lights on at the same time. You can see that it actually does cut the power of the PIAAs a little. I use my driving lights until it gets dark to save the life of the PIAAs. They are a hot burning bulb.

Yea, I have them too and had no problems.... for awhile. They melted on a 45 degree below zero night on the way home from the deer shack in northern Minnesota. How's that for Murphy's law? I'd kept the old bulbs in a toolbox in the back and swapped them. Fortunately, one of them worked and I was on my way, intermitantly lighting the way with the Daylighters on the roof.
A new "beefier" (heavier guage wire) harness cost me less than $20 and that took the guess-work out of it. Wouldn't you rather be sure?
Word of note, replacing the harness SUCKED due to the location of the battery box. Its doable, but you need small hands, or a monkey. Fortunately, my wife is an electrician and she did the install for me.
(She has tiny hands, she's NOT a monkey...)

Be warned. Both of my Silverstars lasted for only about 300 hours of use.
No, I did not touch the glass with my fingers or anything else while installing. Nice light but spendy for only 300 hours.

My silverstars are both still working and I am on 28,000 miles and have had them in since Feb of 2002.

I talked with PIAA and they assured me it would be ok. AS for the silverstars, they suck in my opinion.
Of course they did. They're also the same people with the "interesting" math equation:
55/65=100/110
You should go replacement harness shopping, and soon.[/QB]
I know, but I did some driving last night for about 1 hour. I felt the lens on the headlight and it was suprisingly cooler than the factory fog light lens. I also checked the wiring of the headlight and it felt normal too. Hopefully they will work.
PIAA said the 100/110 is what it is supposed to look like (wattage that is) It for sure looks brighter on the ground and on the buildings I pulled infront of. Standing back I really saw very little color change in the headlights/fog lights.

The Silverstars cost a lot less than PIAA's, are a vast improvement over stock, and I'm not having to worry about my lenses or harnesses melting. That's good enough for me.
