How would you Xterra owners rate the air conditioning system? A/c is very important to me.

I live in San Diego.

I live in the Los Angeles area and I've never needed to go past the 1st click. Occasionally I'll put it into the 2nd at first if it's been parked outside for a while. Then again I'm a skinny guy so results may vary depending on body fat smile .

And this is coming from someone who loves cold weather.

Also take in to consideration you're in an area of relatively low humidity. The amount of moisture in the air plays a large part in the efficiency of air conditioners.
I'm two clicks, sometimes a constant three here on a hot summer day, and that's only after it's been recirculating on 3 or 4 for a while.

In Vancouver, I didnt even use the AC. I left it on the first click with my temperature all the way to cold and I was literally freezing in my car.

IMO, air conditioners aren't nearly as good as they used to be with the old R12 freon - but given that, the Nissan one is fine. If it's good enough for Texas it will be more than adequate for Ca.

Mine was fine when I was living in Jersey, and worked just as well here in Virginia. I usually start at 3 clicks, then settle on 1 or 2 after a few recirc's

Why the hell do I live here??? I guess that shows why we are 48th in educations we obviously aren't smart enough to leave with summers like these. Oh wait sorry I stay because I think shoveling that white stuff--wait what's it called, oh yeah snow. That wouldn't be fun.

I live in Jersey. In August when it is constantly 90, it takes a bit to cool down the cab. I usually blast it and put the windows down for the first mile or so to get the air circulating. After about 5 minutes it gets pretty nice.

unless you have a blower resistor problem (25 bucks from Nissan), it's amazing. im very warm natured and am usually warm when everyone else is cold. i love my AC, but i'd just as soon drive w/ the windows down b/c it gets too cold sometimes lol

I hit 3 or 4 in the summer too. But I guess AZ is a real test for any AC system. Most of the time once it has cooled off it's down to 2 within 15 mins or so which does a good enough job, even if it is 100°+

Wimp. I hardly even use mine unless it is over 105 (well, unless it is humid and then it's 95 or 100). Then I only turn it to 2 for a few minutes then down to 1 (both with the recirculating).

mine works differently every time i use it. Sometimes i think i need a system charge, other times I freeze my ass off. confused relative humidity is probably to blame!

A/C works ok, but my vent never seems to just blow whatthe outside temp is. If it is 60 or so, the vent feeld ward when on outside air. Anyone else notice this?

florida in the summer or the other season, summer. the humidity is so high 85 to 90 with 90 degree temps, takes at least 10 min. to feel comfortable blowing on 4 and recir. keep the windows cracked while parked to the vent shade area so it isn't noticeable to help out.

kaiser i agree with you that the old freon seemed cooler and more of a wet cool not the dry cool that the newer freon emits...although it could be attributed to the fact that i'm just getting older and less patient on the cooling process. laugh

My AC works pretty darn good - esp. when you consider just how much air volume is inside the X. When it's really humid out, it takes an extra 5 to 10 minutes, but if I put it on recirc as soon as the AC gets the internal humidity down a little it cools right off. After reading about everyone's complaints on the board, I was pleasently suprised with the AC performance my first summer - and it broke 100 a couple days last summer - with +80% humidity [Freak]

It's called the Cold Air Mod and there are a couple of variations. Will probably do this myself next spring...

Other than the fact that the damn truck has been in the shop 10 times in the past year to fix the A/C, I'd have to rate it mediocre at best. It really doesn't compere to the coldness/blowing power of my 2000 Grand Am GT. THAT had a nice AC system.

It's rather weak imo. It's originally designed for the much smaller cabin of the Frontier.
