thanks for the link. I saw this post and asked the question. I thought I was the only one. Going to punch the holes tomorrow. Oh and thanks for not flaming me for not searching. I slapped my own wrist.

So after I saw the link I got curious. My cowl's square opening are covered by a mesh and not blocking the openings. By punching through the mesh I may gain a little airflow but a quick test showed air is passing through the mesh so I left it along.
However, on the passenger side there is a solid plastic cover underneath the mesh. I did drill some holes on this plastic piece not directly under the openings but just to the side of them so water don't get through. Interested to see how this will affect the temperature.
Here is another link to a fresh air mod.

Where he mentioned the black air intake cover is the piece I drilled holes in.

My X's air conditioning worked GREAT!! Didn't have one problem in the 2 years I owned it. Sometimes it was to cold.

Well, mine had its share of problems in the five years of ownership. 25K: A/C HP hose replaced under warranty 69K: Two AC shrader valves replaced. 70K: A/C HP hose replaced, for the second time. I had to put an evaporator in my X under warranty. Other then that, it has been great. Humidity is a bitch with A/C's, but now that I have moved to Northern Cali. not much of a humidity problem anymore, compared to Jacksonville, Fl

Wimp. I hardly even use mine unless it is over 105 (well, unless it is humid and then it's 95 or 100). Then I only turn it to 2 for a few minutes then down to 1 (both with the recirculating).[/b]Well if you enjoy sitting in an oven and trying to drive then fair play to you. I moved here from England, never seen a 90°+ day in my life until coming here, so 110° is fricken hot, whatever way you look at it. Plus with the Leather seats too, that doesn't help to much. I crank up the AC and am proud of it. If you think I'm a wimp, then head over to Mesa and I'll be glad to teach you otherwise.

I've had some issues with my A/C...
Evaporator/Compressor replaced HP hose replaced refrigerant recharged numerous times
After 7 trips to the dealership to have it repaired during June, July, August and September, now it works so good I could hang meat in there. Of course, I don't really need it now, but oh well.

Settle down tough guy? ![[Huh?]](graemlins/huh.gif) It was just a little smack between GBiz and myself. Have you checked out the local club here yet, AZXC . We have a few 4X2's (in fact GBiz is one of them). If you want to get on the mailing list, PM me and I'll throw you on (if you are not already). We have a meeting/run coming up, the site has all the info. If you are interested in riding/camping along I'm sure we can find a 4X4 ride for you. I'll explain, I park in the shade and have a window defector up all the time and the sun roof popped up. I'd have to guess the inside is pretty close to the outside temps (but a little warmer). Because I do this, it is not as hot inside thus I don't need to whip on the air real high. Beside, it's hot regardless and there is nothing you can really do except either get used to it or run from AC to AC. I'm not from AZ (just like 90% of the state), just moved here 2 years ago. Everyone here warned me over and over about buring my hands on the wheel, or my legs on the seats. Well, in 2 summers it has not happened.

My AC is very tempermental. It makes up its own mind as to when it will work. How much will it cost to be fixed?

Had to replace both the low pressure and high pressure a/c hoses after they developed a pin hole in them. Spent about 500 bucks on parts and labor. You can hang meat inside the truck now though.
