My apologies if i put this in the wrong location, seemed logical... anyways i'm wanting to get rid of my Xterra, it is a 2000 4x4 SE... has 64,500 miles on it, very nice condition for a 6 year old vehicle... well maintained, what should be my original asking price and what is the minimum i should take for it? thanks

Location will have some to do with it too. Not a lot but for example in used vehicles that are 4X4 and always been in the south than the northerners like them, because they have not suffered the winters and salts. Florida, for whatever reason, 4X4's are more rare too.
Selling outright you should do better too!

27'000 miles. Huh. Are ya? I took two minutes to go to one of the numerous sites already listed in this thread. I put in your data. I put in jas2288's data. I got retail values for both your Xterras. Go and do likewise, gentlemen . . .

Go and do likewise, gentlemen . . .[/b]For some odd reason I don't feel as if you answered my question. Actually, you post is counter-productive. You don't have to read these types of posts or, for that matter, respond to them. I am well aware of the various sites that will estimate the selling price of a vehicle and have seen the results for this vehicle already. The problem is that these types of sites only serve as a 'dowsing rod' and are sometimes not very accurate. The reason I added my question to the topic is that my, just now, 5 year old vehicle with only 27.000 miles may just get quite a bit more than what KBB, Edmunds and the like report. I posted the question on a forum with national/international reach. I could possibly get a response from someone outside of my area willing to pay the premium mentioned above. The constant sniping on this board...

Get used to it man....It's part of the XOC. If you can't hang with the Big Boys, leave.
At this point, don't expect to get ANYTHING above and beyond what those sites say. Your truck is old and outdated. In all honesty, I'd be surprised if you get what's listed on those sites. It doesn't matter if it's got 27k or 270k miles on it. If someone wants it bad enough, they'll find a better deal than what you would offer, guaranteed.

Now, if you had said that in the first place, I might not have been so snippy. You did not state that you had a special circumstance over another vehicle. You did not state that you required secific expertise. You merely came barging into the middle of a thread, apparently bypassing two or three posts that addressed your supremely well-crafted and highly explanatory query, and instead requested a very inspecific answer, one any monkey with an internet connection can retrieve inside two minutes. As I proved. Next time, might I suggest you be a little more specific? Not only will it prevent such adorable miscommunications, but you might actually get an appropriate answer. The constant sniping on this board... Learn to communicate a specific question when you want a specific answer. Works wonders.

From my experience, the NADA value (from their website) should serve as a guide for the absolute highest price you could expect to get for your ride. That's what the insurance companies in our state use for determining payoff value on total loss vehicles (been there twice about a year ago).
From what I remember, Edmunds tends to show some lowball pricing compared to KBB. Given that, I'd get a price from all three (using the Private Seller option, where applicable) and use a high average from the three as a starting point.
Point of example, using my truck (as it was, stock) as a baseline. 2002 XE 4x4, all power, 88,000 miles, dark blue color, regionally adjusted for the southeast US (NADA gives a national average).
Kelly Blue Book: Excellent: $10,220 Good: $9,435 Fair: $8,395
Edmunds: Outstanding: $11,019 Clean: $10,180 Average: $8,443 Rough: $7,555
NADA Average trade-in: $12,100 Average Retail: $14,725
If I were to total my truck right now (and hopefully I won't), my insurance company would pay the NADA southeast regional average retail value (which, for SUV's and trucks runs a little higher than the national average).
