I just got my Xterra about a week ago and I wanted to purchase a Pioneer DEH-P7400MP so I could play my mp3 cds. There are 2 places I'm considering purchasing it from online. Crutchfield and www.cardiscountstereos.com. Crutchfield provides a mastersheet for do it yourselfers but is about 60 dollars more to purchase from. Is this unit hard to install into a 2002 xterra? Are the mastersheets available anywhere else online? And does anyone have a picture of this unit installed available? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

I wouldn't get anything from crutchfield... they are way overpriced.

As for installation, I've never personally installed any audio equipment in an xterra, but head units are overall pretty easy to install. Once you have the head unit, head over to circuit city/best buy, any place like that, and pick up a wiring harness and instillation kit. It should only run you about $20 and makes the installation really simple. smile

True, but Crutchfield is an authorized dealer for everything they sell and carries full warranties on everything. Plus, their customer service is superb, they give you the wiring harness (I think) and they give you instructions. I will not buy any mechanical stereo products such as CD players form any online retailer that is not an authorized retailer (almost none of them are!).

For that matter, I'm not sure I will buy CD players and such from any online retailer at all; even Crutchfield ever again. Warranty repairs are so much easier to deal with when you have a local dealer to help you. Saves a lot of phone conversations and shipping.

Things like speakers and amplifiers are less likely to be problematic, so I am more likely to shop those by price and give my money to an online retailer.

Remember; the best price is not always the best deal!

First post in a long time.

I bought a good deal of stuff from Crutchfield a week or so ago. All the stuff I needed to make the full jump to XM Radio.

As good of prices as Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Better than the independent scam-joints here in Charlotte.

Sent me everything I needed. Wiring harnesses, instructions, warranties, even return labels (shipping paid) if I had to return something.

Good folks and a great experience.

i've been thinking about getting the same head unit, and am wondering if a stupid kid like myself (well, there are some things i can do...) could possibly install it? thanks

edit: btw, if it matters i have a 2000 X, not 2002, but Crutchfield says this unit will work. i'm just assuming the sizes and stuff are the same for all years of Xterras.

Neil you might also consider the Kenwood-MPV7019. I was just about to order the Pioneer unit but found that the Kenwood seems to get just as good if not better reviews than the Pioneer. It also has an numeric remote that might make it easier to access those mp3s. (esp. If there are more than 100 on a cd). Check out this forum on head units. .
Can anyone post a link or the mastersheet photos on how to install the headunits in an xterra.
Any help appreciated. Thank You.

Don't forget to look at the Alpine 7894 before you make your purchase anything!
