the trim ring is for when you use the DIN ring.... When you mount ISO the trim piece is too thick.

I color all the exposed (the ones you see if you look, but not protruding) mounting brackets that shine with black sharpie on my installs. You could get creative and use flat black model car paint if you wanted, but the sharpie works for me.
