I am looking to add a CB to my Xterra. I drive between Fort Worth, TX and Lubbock, TX and it is nice to have and have the whether channels. I have see other post on here a lot about it but I am not finding what I am looking for so maybe experts can help. I like the cobra 75 for how compact it is and I have used one for and loved it. Where is the best place to put the base in a 2002 and where to wire it? Next is where to mount the antenna? I know this has been the big deal for most but I can’t find the post talking about it. I like the EZ-Over antenna mount so it can fold flat with the roof rack when you don’t need it up. How is the best way to attach it to the rack and what type antenna is good to use for decent CB use and will not be longer then the rack when down?

Before buying a CB, I believe you should visit this Site first laugh

This is where I put my controller box. Excuse my big head shadow. The controller box is the shiny thing with the wire running out of it. laugh

For the antenna I did mine just like Ian had done his in the past. You can see pics on his site at http://www.xterrain.com/ . Go to the mods section and look at the CB Antenna Mount. There are pics and some good instructions. Good Luck!

Thanks to Ian for the great pics and instructions.

I put my control box underneath the center console. Ran the wires out from underneath. The antenna wire goes out the rear passenger door and up to the gear basket where it is attached via a Radio Shack "Roof Rack Mount" to one of the 45 Degree slats on the basket.

So? Use an ez-over, the basic bracket idea is still the same.

For the cobra 75, I put the junction box under the seat. The power feed I used was a cigarette lighter plug going to the outlet on the rear of the center console. The antenna wire was run from under the seat, tucked under the door threshold panels and under the rear side panel, through the tail light assembly, and up the outside jamb area of the hatch to the roof. I mounted the antenna bracked on the holding screw for the cross piece of the roof rack, and use an EZ Over. Easy to install, virtually no cutting of the vehicle, and most of it well out of sight.
