Hey, I'm new to this forum.

I am doing a custom install for my iPod in my Xterra (2003). I will get to the details in a second, but first I some questions.

First to install my FM modulator, I need to connect the modulator to a power source. The diagram (included with the modulator) shows the positive (+) wire hooking directly to the battery (there is an on/off switch), but I don't want to do that incase I leave the switch on, I want the modulator to turn off when I turn off the car. I was thinking since I will be behind the CD player installing connecting the antenna, I might as well connect the power source for the modulator to the same ACC power source for the CD player (just do a little splice). My problem is that I don't know which wire is the ACC power wire. Does anybody know or know where I can find I diagram? Or is there a better place to connect this (remember I will already be taking out the CD player).

The second question is: Does anybody know a page that has a picture/diagram of all the screw locations for the radio part? I know I can find them, I have done many installations on other cars (including nissan) but I figured I might as well as since I'm here. Or does anybody know what panels have to come off to get to the CD player? (I haven't looked yet, but again... just asking while I'm here.)

Thanks for the help

There are numerous discussions about removing the center console in this forum and in "Parts and Accessories" too...

I tapped into the cig lighter in the center console - it's only on when the X is running or in ACC - power switch problem solved.

These worked liked a champ.

There is a groove between the glove box and the radio perfect for stashing a modulator...

So I said I would give the details of the installation.

As most of you are aware, there is no aux input for the Xterra, so I am using a FM modulator. I will be placing my iPod in the area for cellphones (the top little flip door on top of the center compartment between the driver and passenger seat). Power for the iPod will come from an 12 volt adapter from the 12 volt jack right below. The audio cables and firewire cable (supplies the power to the original iPod, which is what I have) will come through the slot designed for power cables for a cellphone. To control the iPod while it is in the compartment, I have modified the iPod remote and soldered new wires leading out of the remote to connect to possibly joystick from a PS2 remote (I'm still figuring out the best possible solution for this). The joystick's left and right movement will tell the iPod to skip backward and forward respectively. The up and down will control volume while the pushing in the joystick will play/pause the song. This will be mounted in one of the empty spots on the dash, so I have easy access while driving (I don't know what they are for, but there are two circular openings to the right of the 12 volt jack on the dash).

Instead of the joystick, I really would like the same thing which controls the powered side-view mirrors. I plan to call my Nissan Dealer and see if I can buy a "replacement" one. I will post pictures when I'm done.

Thanks, I should searched there, I searched on another forum but didn't find anything. Yeah I have one of those connectors left, plus plenty of crimping supplies.

Thanks for the cig lighter suggestion... that is much easier to do.

Yeah, mine goes off too. The other three don't go off, however. I really wish that the one in the compartment between the driver and passenger seat would turn off, but not a big deal.
