The stock unit in my 04 X is a very different shape than most aftermarket units. Does anyone know of a cd/mp3 unit that works from an asthetic
standpoint? Also, without going super high end, is there a brand/unit anyone can reccomend that is a good value. I am assuming that I will need a separate amp. Scott

How is it a totally different shape? I thought the Xterra stereos were just double DIN vs. single DIN. Most places you have stereos installed will have adapters to make single DIN stereos fit into a double DIN slot. Or, I think Pioneer and JVC both make double DIN stereos that you can fit in no problems....

yea i just put one in mine. get whatever cd player you want practically and just buy the adapters for it. the biggest pain was getting the connectors out of the cd player. a small flat headed screw driver worked by prying at them a lil. good luck.

i just had that same damn problem... the hardest part was getting those damn factory clips off the factory head unit... now i have everything in, and i will post pics soon... it makes the stock speakers sound a lot better..

i went with this Pioneer DEH-P7600MP
Im very happy with it!

I put in a Kenwood X579 head unit. It's possibly the least "busy" head unit that's still got some quality. Cost me less then $200 on ebay and it works great.

I just got the adapter kit from crutchfield and it worked GREAT....gives me a nice pocket for my wallet and cell phone
