But that's why I'm sticking it in the general section. I read that the 07 Sentras are coming out with a CVT! Is that a first for a normal, drive on the road car or SUV? or am I just missing out? I figured people would be making a bigger deal out of this.

Nope...lots out there with CVT's...Prius, Murano, Vue, etc....

I don't know how much it has to do with the transmission and how much is just power/weight - but the Murano is a dog. I wasn't impressed.

Oh - for those who are wondering WTF we're talking about: CVT = continuously variable transmission = no shifting... the transmission adjusts automatically as you accelerate (picture a belt that is riding on a cone and can move up and down the cone to provide infinite gear choices.. I don't think this is how they really work - but it gives you the visual). It's an odd feeling riding in one... you keep waiting for that little shift-jerk and it never comes.

I just drove a Murano for the first time recently. The way I drive is I always let go of the gast just slightly right before the tranny shifts. It's something that I have done since I had an old beater that used to jerk the tranny if it shifted under load. I felt rather weird when the tranny shift never came...
