I am planning on making the Paragon trip on the 6th and taking the level 1 trails. I am a rank newbie at this business of DELIBERATELY driving off road - all of my previous experience has been on the "oops!" and "oh shit!" end of the spectrum.
Any suggestions? Hints?
I don't have a CB - will this be essential for the trip?

Not essential, but there's alot of conversation that will be going on that you may miss. We usually have somebody w/ a passenger who relays from CB to FRS.

Hey Wreckerboy, I'll be doing the group 1 trail too. Never went off roading so it should be an eye opener. What other gear should be brought along? (I can't find the link in the NJAX website under excursions )

I have a couple spare FRS radios that I'll bring along in case anyone needs one...OR goto radio shack and buy their $20 CB..we can install it at the staging area of Paragon...you usually sit around there for an hour waiting to get organized.

Great idea, I'll go check out radio shack. Hey, what is an frs? Jeez, I got a lot to learn......
Dayspring, when I go to the NJAX site and click on excursions it only gives me two links to Shamokin pictures. I guess the website doesn't like my mac....LOL

The info for the trip is on the main page. As for the Xcursion link, that's just for PAST trips. A little boo-boo. As for FRS- it's Family Radio Service I believe. Think Motorola Talkabout.

I just picked up an $80 CB at radioshack for $25...awesome. Except the antenna cost $30, ouch. Thanks for the tip Rich. I'll wait until next saturday to have someone help me install it.

Well, if there's a day during the week that you're not busy, I live right in bridgewater. I've done a CB install, maybe I could help. And my stiffeners got shipped, so a hitch may need installing too.

If I didn't have my head up my ass these last two months or so, I'd have seen this trip coming.
Next one!

Under IE it's just fine. (This is on a Mac, too.)

Just back from Paragon. Freakin' awesome trip! I did the group 1 trails (my first time out) and the other guys did group 2. There were some challenges but nothing the X couldn't handle stock. Some dudes even managed to get a Hummer stuck. What a waste of $80,000.....LOL
Anyways, BorderPhreak, I see your running OSX, cool. I used to but switched back to 9 for the all around speed. On IE I feel I'm not quite getting everything to pop up, maybe I should try it on another system.
Gary

Shamokin was awsome, to put it mildly!
Thanks to Oleg for loaning a compleate stranger his FRS radios, and to Flytrap for going first on the trail - once I saw where he hit I knew not to got there! He did seem to get the hang of it pretty nicely as the day went on though.
I too was impressed how well a stock truck does with a little common sense, and not a lot of speed. Now if I could just get the rest of the mud out of the nooks and crannies .... ($9 later at the hand op car wash...)

Wreckerboy, Anytime you need a bushwacker you know who to call. All in all we did pretty darn good with our stock X's.....when's the next trip? Oleg, I'll get those radios to you asap, thanks.
