rcutnik, thanks for making us jealous with your first post! i want a diesel.
21-22 mpg? I'll believe it when I see it. I've driven for 200 plus miles non-stop, keeping a steady speed of 65km, tires properly inflated, proper alignment, and stayed behind larger trucks and semi's to decrease wind resistance and I can never get anything over 16mpg. I filled up at the destination and properly calculated mileage to actual amount of gas used, then did the same thing back home. Either Im crazy or you guys driving first gens and getting higher mileage are really driving toyota SUV's!

I'm in Costa Rica and my X runs on diesel. In this country diesel price is lower than gas... AND the efficiency (mpg) is higher on that type of engine.
You do realize how many people hate you here now, right?

Not really that hard for me to get 20 to 21mpg on the highway. I'm talking about cruise set at 65mph for about 200+ miles without taking it off once. I've done it on numerous occasions. typically the worst I will ever get on the highway is 17-18mpg. Maybe I'm just lucky. I don't know.

You need to revise your methodology.
Fill the tank. Zero the odometer. Take your trip, get groceries etc. Fill up. Note gallons pumped. Note miles driven and zero odometer. Divide miles by gallon to get mpg. Start test again. It has nothing to do with tank size.
