I was looking at these shock sinse i just did a PML. I am also looking to get replacement leaf springs but can figure out what size shocks to get. Heres the link.
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch....k=KeywordSearch
Im pretty sure i should get the Collapsed Length 15.11 in, and Extended Length 24.35 in right?
Oh and where can i get deaver leaf springs?

If you are looking for a full Deaver replacement leaf pack, just call Deaver and talk to Jeff. They also have an AAL that will fit your X. For shocks why not go with the 5150's instead?

24" extended, 15" collapsed is a bit short a shock...

...a little shock travel = a lot of wheel travel...but the stock shocks are 9" travel...why replace them with another 9" travel shock...

...get AT LEAST 10" travel....and, at least 26" extended.

You can go up to about 16-17" collapsed.

BTW - If by new leaf pack you mean getting rid of the oem leaves, and swapping in a new Deaver leaf pack...as opposed to just ADDING leaves (AAL) from Deaver...you may want to consider getting the new shocks with appropriate valving to match the new spring rate.

Can you explain. I was hoping to get the shocks in a week with the air intake and then by the deaver later in the summer. And yes i dont want the AAL i would like a full pack. What do you mean valving?
Oh and David/TJ is this what your talking about.
Travel:11" Valving:170/60, Platinum Powdercoat Extended:28" Colapsed:16.5"

TJ...my geometry may be a bit fuzzy here so please correct me if I am wrong...but isn't your statement that "...a little shock travel = a lot of wheel travel" incorrect?? How can ANY shock travel equal more than a 1:1 ratio in wheel travel??? Even standing VERTICALY one inch of shock travel would equal only one inch of wheel travel and the farther away from vertical you go the longer the travel of the shock must be to get that one inch of wheel travel...

LOL

Imagine a sissor.

Now, imagine you need one shock near the pivot point, closer to the screw that holds the two halves together....and one at the ends, near the tip of the sissor.

Open and close the sissor, and look at the distance the shock closer to the pivot point, and the one closest to the tips have to travel.

laugh

Its like that on the axle too....the shocks are far inboard of the tires...so, for the same tire travel, the shocks do not have to travel as far.

A stock shock has 9" of travel....a 3" SL Calmini shock has only a little more than 9" of travel, a Bilstien 5100 for the 3" SL has only 10" of travel....etc.

Same up front...the stock shocks have about 4" of travel, but the stock wheel travel is 7".

TJ is right... but I see how you could have been confused. (I was a little confused myself). If you jack the rear of the truck up and let the axle hang down then yes it is a 1:1 ratio. but since one tire will always be on the ground (hopefully [Freak] ) when wheeling, then the scissor analogy comes into effect.

If you think of the axle as suspended by the shock...and raise one tire...it lowers the other tire...like a see saw....so the shock doesn't even need to change length, and the tire can travel up, or down.

laugh

If I droop BOTH tires straight down...so I am at maximum straight droop...and then STUFF one tire...the OTHER tire will droop EVEN FURTHER.

And, the Drooped side shock will get SHORTER.

The valving might be too soft...

I agree. I'd go with the 10.whatever inch shock in the heavier valving.

I'm running 275/100's on valving...but my truck is about 5,800 lb when loaded for work, etc.

I mean i dont plan to get deavers any time soon. I just want better shocks for right now that are longer than stock. Is there any way to fit the 11.94? I just want the longest shock possible. I mean isn't the 10 really close to stock.

This is with a 10" travel shock...26" extended length/16" collapsed.

Again, a little shock travel goes a long way as far as wheel travel.

The stock rear shock goes from 14" - 23".

Anyway - I'd get stiffer valving either way.

I went with Bils 7100's eventually to get the combination of range and valving I needed...the above pic was taken a while ago when the 5100's were still on.

The 5100's were 255/70 valved.

The 10.17 will be fine for a long time. I had the 11.94 on my X before I did the relocation work and they were a bit long so I had to be careful on the bumps. I could bottom it out if I tried. They 10 will be a better shock for you in the desert as it will not limit your up travel as much. If I did it again, I'd use the 10's...if I were not going to mess with the mounts like I did.
