The general practice is to just do the lift, slap on the tires, and then see where/if they rub.

If they rub, then you have to either get after that area with a cutting tool/hammer, install more lift etc.

Bump stop extensions aren't your issue... those stop uptravel in the rear, but they don't make 'em for the front... and the front is where you are going to rub.

You also might want to consider going with 33x10.5" tires if you can find them. This will reduce your chances of rubbing.

Are you going to keep the stock wheels? They'll fit better if you do (backspacing issues)

That said, the cool thing to do would be to get a 2" body lift in addition to the 3" suspension lift and get some rockcrawler wheels.

Then you'll look like xterraintx here:

Oh - and he's right on the steering system... it will wear out within a year of putting on a suspension lift and big tires - so start planning for a steering upgrade.

Another option is to go with slightly smaller tires and just a body lift. I did the 3" body lift with 32" BFG MTs:

I have some rubbing problems - but it seems like a lot of that is because of the rockcrawler wheels with less backspacing (i.e. they stick out farther so they don't tuck up inside the wheel wells anymore). The cool thing with the body lift is that it doesn't wear on your steering as much as a suspension lift (though with the larger tires there is still some increased wear)
